5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read for Young Adults & Those Young at Heart, October 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was recommended to me by a teenager skilled at reviewing popular books for young adults (YA). As a mature adult, I quickly became totally engrossed in this well written novel and was surprised how well I liked the flow of the book much better than more popular adult books. No adult or teenager could get bored with this story. The author is extremely talented and I'll be reading more of her works, and suggest you try this book, too.

As a former teacher (30 yrs.) I've constantly looked for ways to increase not only literacy but develop a new generation of reading for fun.
All of her Forensic novels are great. With so much of this subject on tv, a lot of kids bought into reading about it in a reading friendly way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely incredible!, December 28, 2009

It is not often to find a Young Adult author who can find the courage not rely on profanity and sexual overtones to sell a book. However, Alane Ferguson is gifted in the art of weaving a mystery so intense you cannot put it down. I am a reading resource teacher and have recommended Ms. Ferguson's books to my students and they just love them. She writes a little something for every reading enthusiast, mystery, forensics, high school drama, coming of age love and self discovery. I truly hope this is not the last book in the series. My students want more and so do I.

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, December 22, 2009
This review is from: The Dying Breath: Forensic Mystery (Hardcover)
Cameryn is being stalked by her old boyfriend, killer Kyle O'Neil. The local cops, especially Justin, are keeping a close eye on her. But no one realizes just how close Kyle is getting until Cameryn finds the body of Leather Ed.

Next to Ed's body is a note left just for Cameryn. The house is a mess, but the note has been left out in plain sight for anyone to find. The note calls Cameryn his soul mate and that he will love her until her dying breath. This does not sound good at all.

From that point on, it seems like Kyle is one step ahead of everyone. When two famous people are found dead in a restaurant, the case gets even more bizarre. Dr. Moore, the cranky pathologist, calls Cameryn in to assist with the autopsies. He's discovered something in their lungs he's never encountered before. With a cryptic clue left by Kyle, Cameryn won't quit until she can figure out the clue and tie Leather Ed's death with the other two dead people.

All the while, Kyle keeps trying to contact Cameryn, and Justin keeps trying to protect her. Cameryn is finally willing to let Justin into her heart a little further, but life keeps getting in the way.

THE DYING BREATH does not fail to capture the reader's attention. Keeping up with events from past stories, Cameryn develops into a determined young woman unwilling to give in to the fear Kyle is trying to promote. With a hint more romance in this novel, there is truly something for everyone: suspense, intrigue, romance, and yes, even a little gore (What did you expect? It's a novel about forensics!). The pages will fly by, and the ending will leave you breathless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid sleuthing and a satisfying read, December 8, 2009
This review is from: The Dying Breath: Forensic Mystery (Hardcover)
Great addition to the Christopher Killer series. As a media specialist, we had preordered this book because the other ones were so popular. The teaser 1st chapter had me hooked and anxiously awaiting the arrival. I was not disappointed! While some factors of Cammie's life are wrapped up in this book, others really could be written about in a new series, perhaps her college life. Fans and newcomers to Alane Ferguson will not be disappointd in her latest book. Our many readers check her website in hopes of news of another Cammie mystery!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books Ever!, November 13, 2009
This review is from: The Dying Breath: Forensic Mystery (Hardcover)
I waited a long time for The Dying Breath to come out. And when it did, it did not disappoint. The return of Kyle O'Neil and the budding relationship between Cameryn and Justin give the perfect intensity to the novel. The plot is full of twists and turns and at the ending is perfect. The Dying Breath is one of the best books I have ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars CSI Fans Should Read These Books!, October 26, 2009
This review is from: The Dying Breath: Forensic Mystery (Hardcover)
These books have been so popular here in the library that I was anxious to review this book to see what all the hub-bub is about. Well I was really impressed. Which doesn't surprise me because believe it or not you guys....teens and tweens are fairly discerning readers!

My only disappointment is that I wish I would have read the first three books (which I will now) because although the author does an excellent job of giving you most of the back story, I have a feeling I would have been a lot more emotionally invested in the characters if I'd read the previous books in the series.

These are ultimate books for teens and reluctant readers! They are fast paced and easy reads. Cameryn is an original and trailblazing lead character. I love that she is a total science geek and forensics protege! If you know a teen who is a CSI fan then you have found a series for them!

In addition to the forensics and CSI factor there is also the boyfriend and crush factor. Cameryn may be a brilliant forensics student but she is still in high school and all the normal teen angst factors still apply.

This is an excellent series that would do well in any middle school and high school library. Heck, adults will enjoy them too!

Forensic gore factor make this series best suited for 7th grade and up.

The first 3 books in A Forensic Mystery Series:

Book 1: The Christopher Killer

Book 2: The Angel of Death

Book 3: The Circle of Blood
