My rating is really a 4 1/2 stars. I really love this character and will look for more from this series. My problem with the author was the lack of '. Should be Blake's, not Blakes; John's not Johns. This stuff drives me crazy and there is no excuse in a shorter book. Also, I think the cheese filling recipe in the back is maybe 1/2 cup?? I'm sure it isn't 12 cups of sugar.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I bought it because of the fantastic cover - it was too cute to resist. I don't normally go for mysteries even cozy ones but this one was great. The writer is descriptive without being over the top. You get to meet Lexy and her friends including her Nana which reminds me of my own but without the ipad. Ms Dobbs holds your interest the whole way through and not just because she is describing cute hunky guys :-)

Wonderful book. Buy it today. Now if only I could get Lexy to cook the recipe for Danish Pastries included in the back - that would be fantastic.

An entire bakery full of new appliances paid for by a catering job of several parties leading up to a wedding. That might be believable if you don't have a clue about industrial appliances and think bakers get free supplies, but realistically? No way. They're pastries, not filet mignon.
Next, there's no downpayment and no payment plan in place - she has the appliances and full payment is due in 7 days... And, she got no advance payment for the parties - the day the murder occurs (after she's already done an unspecified number of related events) she is supposed to pick up a 50% deposit.

If you have zero business experience and aren't likely to be driven to distraction by the things already mentioned, go ahead and try the book. It's okay - not great, but not full of errors and bad english either. I find that I am not the least bit interested in who killed the victim. The victim is cliched - a bitchy, mean, pretty gold digger. I don't care if it's the handsome bad boy brother, or the handsome, playboy brother. I don't care if it's the plain-jane personal assistant (who happens to be the only not-perfectly-gorgeous character in the book) or the sleazy ex-girlfriend. I don't care if Lexi chooses the slimy playboy or the sexy cop. Oh, and I absolutely believe that Lexi can survive eating nothing but her own baking and never gain an ounce. And I don't care about that either.

I have over 600 books on my Kindle. As you can guess, I buy a few books here and there and some just get bumped down the page and never read. Oooooops! I was looking through my home screen for things to read over my winter break and came upon this book. I must have blocked out my experience reading the first Lexy Baker mystery (needless to say, it was NOT a positive experience!) or I neeeeeeeever would have clicked on this book.

My review for the first in the series: "Cute story, but sooooooo many grammar mistakes! Plural vs possessive problems everywhere. PLEASE use grammar check on the computer or get a better editor. It was distracting enough that I couldn't finish reading, and it is a super short novel so that is definitely saying something!

Sadly, Ms. Dobbs did not bother to find herself a new editor. My students (Lexy Baker would think that was the possessive form of student) turn in papers with less grammatical errors than this "published" novel.

There were a lot of things done that made the story frustrating to read. Who would go walking a dog in the woods with stilettos? Why would a business woman not work out some small with the vendor on her equipment?

It just didn't seem that this woman had sense enough to own a business let alone solve a murder.

I didn't realize that this series was so few pages. I didn't feel like it was worth the money. Finished before it started it seems

I love it when I find a book that is so much better than I expect, and this one certainly was. Leighann Dobbs' writing style is so somooth and easy to read it just seems to flow. Lexy is such an interesting character full of quirks, mood swings and female insecurities that you feel like she's an old friend by the end of the story. I liked her, and really got a giggle out of Nan and her lady detectives club. They make for some great side characters, as did Cassie, her assistant and friend in the bakery.

There's nothing too heavy in this story, it's just a light and easy read. Kind of like a daytime soap that you can watch and be entertained briefly with. I kind of wish there was more sexual/romantic tension between her and Jack, her police detective boyfriend, but maybe she's saving more of that for a later book. I'd certailnly like to see their relationship grow over time.

Overall, nothing serious, just a light and fun read that looks like it might turn into a great series.

First there was the book "Killer Cupcakes" by this same author. Now we have "Dying for Danish." I'm not a Mensa member, but I think I'm detecting a pattern! Here's what the reader can look forward to inside this new cozy mystery:

-- Lexy Baker returns with her mouthwatering desserts and her attraction to Jack, the handsome detective. This time she stumbles over a body while out on a catering job.

-- A little dog named Sprinkles who lends a helping paw to solve the murder.

-- Four iPad-savvy, case-solving grandmothers who'll make you wish you knew them in real life.

If you're looking for some quick, light reading, this is it!
