From Publishers Weekly

One warm Atlanta night, Jennifer Marsh?part-time caterer and unpublished mystery writer comforted by her writing group?comes upon her dazed friend Emma Walker holding a bloody knife as her ex-husband, Edgar, floats facedown in their swimming pool. Worse, it turns out that Emma holds the controlling interest in the family business, a popular local restaurant chain called Edgar's Down Home Grill. Jennifer knows in her heart Emma couldn't have killed her husband, but how can she prove it? Can the real murderer be Lisa, Edgar's young second wife; Roy, who makes the secret steak sauce; or a glamorously mysterious management consultant? Jennifer enlists the help of the women in her writing group and uses her fictional detective, Maxie, to test her theories. With this eccentric gang, Fitzwater (Dying to Get Published) once again offers an entertaining read.

More About the Author

Judy Fitzwater grew up an Air Force brat and has lived in eight states, including Maine and Hawaii. She currently resides in the Washington, D.C., area with her husband. Her first published mystery, DYING TO GET PUBLISHED, was plucked from a stack of unsolicited manuscripts at Ballantine Books. It was nominated for an Agatha Award for Best First Mystery. The subsequent series, The Jennifer Marsh Mysteries, was a delight for her to write, especially the scenes with Jennifer's quirky writers' group. All six of the Jennifer books are now available in Kindle editions. 4.0 out of 5 stars A great follow-up, January 5, 2000
Judy Fitzwater's second Jennifer Marsh book hits a home run. The writing is as solid as her first book and she has added more depth to the characters - including Jennifer, her boyfriend (sort-of) Sam, Jaimie (her unborn and not yet conceived child) even her dog Muffy.

Once again, Judy creates a wonderfully woven, light hearted mystery - full of angst and who-dunnit's. These characters just grow on you - I swear!

Once again, we also get to enjoy the half baked plots and character's that Jennifer's writers group discusses at their weekly meetings.

This time Jennifer gets woken up in the middle of the night to go "rescue" her eldery friend Emma Walker who is at her ex-husband's house playing pranks but has not returned home when she is supposed to. Jennifer arrives to find Emma's ex face down in the pool and Emma unconscious and holding the murder weapon - to make matters worse the current wife arrives with a gun and the police! Now Jennifer is their (unwilling) star witness - what can she do but go undercover to ferret out the truth.

This series is a fun one. Just kick back, relax and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The total package. In some ways better than the first., August 26, 1999
By A Customer
Judy Fitzwater strikes again. Another witty, charming mystery involving Jennifer Marsh and her associates. I love the premise: Jennifer's sweet, elderly friend, Emmie Walker, is found at the scene of her ex-husband's murder by Jennifer. Now Jen is the star witness in a case against her friend. She's sure that Mrs. Walker couldn't have committed murder, so Jennifer sets to find out who really did it, before Mrs. Walker goes to jail.

The characters remain consistent with the first book, but here they are able to grow and develop even more. I love all of them, especially Sam, the charming almost bad-boy reporter that Jennifer sort-of dates.

Another solid mystery. I can't wait for the next one, Dying for a Clue. I think it'll be out this fall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jennifer Marsh is a Winner, October 22, 2000
When Jennifer Marsh, aspiring mystery writer, though still unpublished, gets a middle of the night phone call to help an elderly friend, she gets dressed, jumps in the car and heads over to the estate of Edgar Walker. Edgar is the very rich owner of the Down Home Grill steakhouses and unfortunately is floating, dead in the swimming pool. Lying unconscious on the patio and holding the bloody murder weapon is his ex-wife and Jennifer's dear friend, Emma. As the police arrive and chaos ensues, Emma is arrested for the murder of her ex and Jennifer Marsh becomes the prosecution's star witness. Now Jennifer, with the help of her writer's critique group is on a mission to solve the murder and clear Emma's name. Judy Fitzwater has written a charming, witty mystery full of great and often inept characters, that you'll be rooting for to the very end. Her writing is down to earth and easy to read, with irreverent dialogue and laugh out loud scenes. This is a light-hearted, page turner you'll easily finish in one sitting. So sit back, watch Jennifer and the gang work their magic and enjoy!
