Book Description

This edition contains the first two books in the Zombie Overload series.

Admit it. You think about it, fantasize about it, live through it in your head. But what would you do if zombies became a reality? If you actually were to see the dead walk, attack and kill people you know - who then rise right in front of your eyes? What would you do when the undead don't follow the script you've played out - over and over - in your own mind?
Find out what happens to a woman in central Illinois when her life is
turned upside down. Zombies become real and so does the danger. Her
family means the most to her, but can she keep them alive? Can she keep
herself alive?
In this double edition that begins with a novelette, you are a big part of the story. The main character "speaks" to you often and you're invited into her thoughts - which can be quite humorous at times. She's not perfect and she knows it. She strong and she's a fighter...but she doesn't know it.

Editorial Reviews

"Ok, so zombie stories/films before go along the lines of this - a virus, dead people eating other people, people start coming together to fight the zombies off with the main character(s) being men. Yes? Think this one will be the same? Wrong!!
I highly recommend this story to anyone who likes zombies, blood and guts, and strong female characters!" -Fiona at I Heart Books

4.0 out of 5 stars I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE ZOMBIES! October 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Family struggling to survive during a zombie apocalypse, Canada and her hubbs Will take their kiddos and head out of their city towards family trying to stay alive. Along the way they team up with several other groups of survivors just trying to figure out how to survive. Playing zombie video games and other war games Canada seems to think she's an expert and can figure it out. But real life contains emotions that don't come with playing videos except the anger when you die in them and there is no coming back from that in reality. Hoping that some of these survivors are going to be a huge help in getting them from point A to point B, which is a family farmhouse hours away, she's throws her fear to the wind and becomes 'Rambo chick'. She knows she's smart, tough, and refuses to let anyone else get hurt. She not only puts herself in the front lines and gets hurt or close to it, she also brings attention to herself from another that causes emotions to boil over and trust to be questioned...and in a zombie apocalypse trust is one thing that should NEVER be questioned.

I LOOOOOOOOOVE ZOMBIES! Okay that being said I've been very weary of reading this book for fear that I would be extremely disappointed. I wasn't however. I was pleasantly surprised. And thank god this had book and one two combined cause I think I would've thrown something. Canada and her hubbs Will remind me so much of me and mine. As a matter of fact, right as I was starting book 2 my hubbs asked what I was reading for book club this week and I told him. I caught him up on what happened and started reading book 2 out loud to him. We've enjoyed bonding time over your story together. Never thought that would ever happen over a book but we both enjoy this. So much so I've purchased the other 2 and we knocked out book 3 in 24 hrs. I did notice errors in the book. None that I could remember in book 1 but several in book 2. Just a heads up as some readers are brutal when it comes to editing and such.

4.0 out of 5 stars Took some getting used to, but not a bad read. February 27, 2014

If I could give a half-star, I'd have voted this a 3.5; but benefit of the doubt bumps it to 4.

Initially, I was a bit skeptical on finishing the book. The way the main character's narration was written was a bit annoying to me, at first. However, the author did explain a few character flaws that made her hyper-active style and way of talking more acceptable. I also found myself hung up on some of the slang, like "K" instead of okay or OK. Admittedly, this is a minor thing to nitpick. In one or two places, I caught myself re-reading an area that felt a little jumpy when the main character digressed into another train of thought for a moment.

Once beyond that, the story was a good one. The pace of the story was very fast, which both helped and hindered it. It gave a sense of urgency to the situation of being suddenly stuck in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. However, in some areas it seemed the development of the characters suffered a bit due to the pace, where the reader feels it might have been rather quick for a character to act a certain way toward another. I know that sounds vague, but I don't want to spoil the details.

By the end of the book, I liked the author's use of a flawed character. The main character wasn't a picture-perfect vixen or muscle-bound she-warrior. In spite of the hiccups I felt at the beginning, by the time I finished, I appreciated the fact the author used such flaws.

I would recommend this book to any fan of zombie-fiction. The author stated she is a fan of "The Walking Dead" series, and it can be seen in this book, which could easily be something happening in another part of the country at the same time as events in the show.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not my usual reading material May 9, 2013
By PRBabe5
Format:Kindle Edition
**I received this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.**

Book 1:
I've always said I would try anything and if I can't read it, I stop. I wasn't sure how I would feel about a book on zombies....I mean really, I hate almost all zombie movies. The exception being Resident Evil. I think that is because Alice kicks ass so not your typical "brains, must eat brains" kinda thing. However, fans and friends of the author were really pushing for these books, and she was nice enough to gift me the first two, so I figured the least I could do is try them and be as honest as I can about them in my review.

If I liked zombie movies, I probably would have rated this a 5 star. However, I can't say I loved it, because (and no offense C.M., truly) I REALLY am not a fan of zombie anything. However, I did rate it 4 stars because at the end of the day, the book was very well written with humor and every day people. There wasn't an "Alice" kicking butt, but a housewife and her family, all trying to survive a freak zombie infestation. Like anyone, their first reaction was "Are you kidding me? This can't be real." To the realization that HELL YES, it was. The story is written with Canada (the housewife) narrating. She is on her second marriage, has 2 children from her first, and is traveling with her husband Will, her parents, Will's sister and family, as they try to avoid becoming zombies or dinner.

This book is a short story introduction so easy to get through to determine if I could actually commit to reading book 2. And I can say definitively, that yes, I am reading book 2 now and so far, so good. If you are like me, you may find the humor and perspective of Canada entertaining enough to get past any hesitancy for reading this genre.
