5.0 out of 5 stars Attention Please July 8, 2012
By Boots
Format:Paperback
I became an admirer of Judith Ivie's work when I read Waiting for Armando, the first of her Kate Lawrence mysteries. I have enjoyed all the others since, so it is no surprise that I looked forward to reading Dying Wishes. I was not disappointed. I will say that this one is different. We wouldn't want her just to copy herself, now would we?
Being myself considerably older than Kate, I was both amused and touched by her trials at turning fifty. How well I remember. I like being able to relate to characters and to understand what they are going through. I also like the sense of familiarity I have with the town and the featured senior living facility. Even the details of her real estate business are reassuring. I do not live in Wethersfield and I still own my own house, but I felt at home in Kate's surroundings.
That feeling of home makes the uneasiness of the mysterious deaths even more unnerving. As the plot developed I had to deal with some issues I had been avoiding myself. Actually, I am grateful to Kate for calling them to my attention. And to Judith Ivie for holding my interest through to the end. I may need to go back now and re-read the earlier Kate Lawrence books while I wait for the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars well written and thought provoking July 6, 2012

I have read all of Judith Ivie's Kate Lawrence mystery books and enjoyed them immensely. I find that her characters are similar to people I know and love. They seem real and I find I can just curl up and really look forward to a great story. "Dying Wishes "kept my interest and made me question my own beliefs on this subject matter.I also learned a few things like what not to feed swans. I will remember that the next time I go to the pond. I think the thing that I love most about her stories is the fact they occur in Old Wethersfield, CT. These characters go to the same places ,resturants and diners I love to visit. The towns and the places are familiar to me and it adds such a realistic touch. The characters deal with the issues we all deal with (now or eventually) and that just breathes life into her story. Thank you Judi for some enjoyable reading hours. I was sad to have the book end. Maybe I will see you at Town Line! KEEP WRITING!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dying Wishes July 19, 2012
By Joanna
Format:Paperback
As always Judith Ivie has done an excellent job of writing about Kate and her friends on another adventure. I enjoy reading about the familiar characters and how they go about life. Judith makes you feel like you are reading about yourself and your friends. She also writes about things that happen in everyday life, not the murders, but the everyday lives of the characters. I am only a few years away from 50 and found myself laughting out loud as I read about Kate and her changing body and mind. I also like that Kate takes walks with friends and stops at the local diner to have coffee and chat with friends and colleagues. As a paralegal who once did residential closings I can attest that what Emma goes through in this book does indeed happen. Kate and her friends are down to earth regular people trying to work and raise a family, just like the reader. Although the topic of this book would make you think the book was about dying, it was not a depressing book. It is a book about life choices and friendship. I can't wait to see how Kate handles being a grandmother in the next book. I would highly recommend this book and all of Judith's books.
