An Exclusive Interview with Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan talks to Scott Emmerman, Director Of Marketing and Sales for Hohner USA

When did you get started playing harp?
"When I was in high school"

Which came first for you, the guitar or the harp?
"The guitar"

Having played both wood & plastic comb harmonicas, which do you prefer & why?
"I like the more natural feel of the wood"

Who are some of your main musical influences on harmonica?
"Wayne Raney, Little Walter, & Jimmy Reed"

What are some of your personal favorite harmonica tunes performed by other artists?
"Roller Coaster" by Little Walter, "Going Down the Road" by Woody Guthrie, & "Freight Train Boogie" by the Delmore Bros. featuring Wayne Raney"

Tell us about your experiences with the harmonica "rack." When did you first start using one?
"When I was performing solo in coffee houses. I got the approach from Woody Guthrie... it really gave a coffee house performer more variety to be able to keep the rhythm on guitar while playing the harp."

How did you adapt your playing style when using it?
"Well, you play a more chordal thing, as opposed to the single note style of folks like Little Walter."

Does the harmonica play a role in your songwriting process?
"No"

How do you feel your harmonica playing has influenced today's players?
"I'm not sure it has"

Are there any young harmonica players today that capture your attention?
"Not really. But I hope one comes along soon."

What advice would you give to a beginning harp player?
"Listen to Little Walter, Wayne Raney and Jimmy Reed!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast delivery....by Bob himself!!, September 12, 2009

I ordered this fabulous Dylan-signed harmonica so I too could play songs about the excesses of the rich and powerful, and how they sucker and enslave the working class in order to feed their greed. It arrived the next day, delivered by Mr. Tambourine Man himself, and he then taught me how to blow it. An excellent value! I'm ordering another one as soon as I can save up enough money from my job working on Maggie's farm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar value!, September 11, 2009

What happens when you join a 151-year-old musician with one of the world's most annoying instruments in the annals of popular music? You make history, of course! You *know* you don't have any better use for $5000 in an economy like this, so why not be the one of those who are born every minute? Think of how proud you'll be to show off a cheap $30 instrument scribbled on by some unknown low-level employee!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good harmonica, worth the money, August 28, 2009
This review is from: Bob Dylan Hand-Signed-Series Hohner Marine Band Harmonica (Electronics)
I found this harmonica basically did the job, although the minor keys were a little flat at times. It did a great job funneling drool off the bottom, thanks to the well-crafted bezeled saliva-channel. Dylan's autograph provided the final pleasing touch. Would I buy it again? Sure, but I'd probably say this is more like a $4,000 harmonica. I think $5,000 is a little high. Although I won't be returning this gem. I'm now looking for some platinum-trimmed bongo drums signed by Carlos Santana.
