I first bought the second hand LP of this way back in 1969. For the younger person it might not appeal, as its very much older style jazz. However as one of the earlier cover albums of Dylan music I think it is worth having. Its good traditional style jazz. My big problem is that most songs only run for under 3 minutes. Sometimes it can sound a bit tinkery.

This album does not have the modern innovation of Ben Sidran's CD, nor the modern approach of Barbara Dickson. I'd like to hear more hunky interpretations like Jools Holland's take of "It Takes A Lot To Laugh" and Falco's cool "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue".

My LP is mono with the usual pops. The sound quality on this `new' CD is very good and its refreshing to finally hear it cleaned up and in stereo.

Released about September, 1966, Glen Campbell on guitar and his Capitol producer, Al DeLory, on piano. I'm pleasantly surprised--didn't know it was out on CD! DeLory produced Campbell's Capitol output starting with the middling C&W hit, "Burning Bridges" on Capitol 45 #5773 just a little (October-November, 1966) after this album. I wonder if the Warner Bros. Sidewalk Swingers FOLKSWINGING HARPSICORD WITH 12 STRING GUITAR might be out on CD reissue. (Campbell on guitar on that Lp; Leon Russell on Harpsicord under "Russell Bridges" on that album.) Campbell had four albums on the World Pacific label from late '63 into late '65 as by the Folkswingers (2), Bandits (1), and Mr. 12 String Guitar, also as part of a garage group, the De-Fenders (1), and about half of TUT TAYLOR & THE FOLKSWINGERS (1). Wonders....

This is a classic and somewhat sentimental piece to me. My Father had this on vinyl and i converted it to cd along with the skips and cracking of a vinyl piece that was not well taken care of. I didn't care, because after numerous attempts to find it on cd, i was unsuccessful. But one day i logged on to Amazon.com and typed in The Gene Norman Group and to my surprise! There it was! When i received it in the mail, it was the happiest i've been about a piece of music in a while. I lay on my bed, pumped the sound up on my radio and enjoyed this old friend of mine in total perfectness, no skips, no crackling. If u love jazz, this is a beautiful piece to have in your old school jazz collection. It has that 60s sound if you know what that is. I thank whoever was responsible for releasing this album on cd, because it's definitely a must have for a real music lover like myself and many others. Bob Dylan had some wonderful music and The Gene Norman Group conveyed it well.
