Disappointed that Autechre got too weird, and Funkstorung started hanging with rappers? Chachi Jones picks up where they left off. Crunchy, syncopated beats and spacey synths, with way more edge than the rest of the derivitive IDM still being made these days. Buy ME!!!

I'd been reading articles by c.Jones for years in Tape Op, was freaked out by one of his circuit-bent Speak & Math toys (it threatened to loose a thousand electric bees into my entrails) and have been rocking some old songs of his I downloaded a long time ago. Here he comes, though, with this FAT record that melds some glitched out/intricate freak-edits (swimming all around you) with lung-slamming kickBooms. He does a great job pushing this monster along with returning (melodic/aural) themes and lots of weirdness, all paced perfectly. BIG UPS for this work Mr. Jones.

This is really good NEW music. get this. just do it. Who thought Carl Sagan and Bucky Fuller could be synthesized into music? Well we all did I guess, but this dude, Chachi Jones did it. He did it!
All that and he circuit bends Speak and Spells.

This music is very well produced and beauteous.

I picked this one up after hearing a great remix he did for Machine Drum, and all I can say is, from start to finish, this does not disappoint! Chachi takes the blueprint from early-to-mid period Autechre and goes and adds his own unique, soulful, intelligent flavor. There's some excellent syncopated beats and polyrhythms going on in each track--some delightful shuffling and clattering in the background, propelling the main beats. This isn't a bunch of cold, labcoat music either, abundant with lots of good melody and ambience. Some tracks are more aggressive and faster paced than others, and several are downright lovely doses of otherworldly ambience. Thanks to artists like Mr. Jones, IDM is still alive and well. A truly delightful and invigorating listen this lp is. Just pick this cd up, ok?
