The DYMO LabelManager is a thermal transfer printer that helps you create high quality labels to organize your life. You can print text, graphics, and symbols directly onto 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", and 1" D1 tapes. Switch out tape colors to help you easily identify file types, storage disks, computer cables, and anything else you need to keep track of. You can import image files, including BMP, JPG, PCX, PNG, TIF, WMF, and EMF formats. You can align text horizontally or vertically and left, centered, or right justify it, too. It's easy, thanks to DYMO LabelManager label design software.

A wide number of bar code formats are supported, along with automatic time and date stamps and chain printing. Print resolution is 180 dots per inch, while print speeds are about 0.4 inches per second. Each tape cartridge prints 7 meters of labels, and print heads have an expected life of about 200 cartridges.

The DYMO label manager connects to your computer via a USB interface and is compatible with PC operating platforms only. A one-year manufacturer's warranty is also provided.

I purchased this unit because after looking at the software is seemed relatively easy to use. The first unit arrive broken. The second arrived intact and worked as Dymo intended but not as I wish it would. The problem stems from the fact that the machine acommadates four different tape sizes, but only two cartridge sizes. If you put a larger tape in, for instance one inch, rather than 3/4 inch, you are stuck with the margin limitations of the 3/4 tape and thus smaller fonts. No way to override this is software.

The software that comes with the LabelManager PC has some limitations, but the the LabelManager itself is just another printer to Windows. So you can mix text and graphics to your heart's content in any graphics program. I had good experiences printing mixed text and graphics from Corel Draw.

It's true that you can't print any larger on 1-inch tape than you can on 3/4-inch tape; the print head is only 1/2 inch wide. But this is Dymo's bargain printer; the higher-capability printers cost more than twice as much.
