5.0 out of 5 stars A great product - makes a lot of heat
I am into my second winter with a Dyna Glo kerosene heater. This product heats really well and doesn't smell up the house if used properly. I gave up on the igniter a long time ago, and I just light it with a butane lighter. Burns all night with the big tank. Heats half the house; just be sure you leave a window cracked in the room. Perfect for workshops and garages...

1.0 out of 5 stars This thing almost killed my family
This thing almost killed my family...twice. Be extremely careful with this Dyna-Glo 23,000 BTU Portable Kerosene Convection Heater. Twice now when I have gone to shut this heater down the unit has remained lit on an very low level putting out large amounts of carbon monoxide. The first time was when I went to shut it down with the release button from a low level setting...

Perfect for workshops and garages. I like the quality and dependability of this unit. Controls work, and feel tight and solid. Large base prevents tip overs. Really puts out a lot more heat than electric heaters. If you don't let it run out of fuel, it will not stink. Turn it off before it runs out, or turn it off outside. Completely odor free while burning. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Convective Kerosene Heater, January 17, 2012

This review is from: Dyna-Glo 23,000 BTU Portable Kerosene Convection Heater (Misc.)
I have owned my Dyna-Glo for two winters now. The Dyna-Glo is around 23000 BTU's and it puts out a lot of heat. It is easy to operate and has virtually no odor, except for a little at start-up and shut-down. This heater does sip a good amount of kerosene because it has a bigger wick. Bigger Wick=more heat (higher BTU's) and greater kerosene use. The two gallon tank on it will last you roughly 8 hours worth of burning..maybe a little longer depending on flame height, ambient temperature, etc. It's easy to use. Be sure that the burner is adjusted (i.e seated) correctly or you will get smoke and odors. This heater will heat the entire uper lever of my home (including 3 bedrooms)on an icy cold night and keep it in the low to mid 70's. Not bad when you consider I have high vaulted ceilings. If you have a smaller space to heat, I recommend a 10000 BTU heater. This is a monster and is great for heating larger spaces and garages.

5.0 out of 5 stars cabin-worthy, January 15, 2012
This review is from: Dyna-Glo 23,000 BTU Portable Kerosene Convection Heater (Misc.)
Live in New Mexico and have a summer mountain cabin at 8500 ft in Cloudcroft--brrr. Usually 15-20 at night in January. No other heat source. Got the new Dyna-Glo 23,000 BTU Portable Kerosene Convection Heater up there yesterday at 130 PM and it was 30F in the cabin. it has a 400 sq ft main room and a 280 sq ft upper sleeping quarters. Temp went up to 40 in 1 hr; 50 in 2hrs; and it was 65 in 4 hrs. It was 72 degrees at bedtime, 1030PM, and I filled the tank and went upstairs where it was 58 degrees. Put a CO monitor at the stairwell to go off so I wouldnt die of CO poisoning in my sleep. It never went off. By morning, it was 61 upstairs, and 80 in the main room. The full tank had gone down by just over 1/2 by 7AM. No stink at all and I am sensitive to that. Had to shut it off to cool it down in there for morning coffee! The low outdoor temp only got to 28F, so not sure how it would do in lower temps....will update if/when we try it. GOOD heater, albeit a little slow to get there.

1.0 out of 5 stars This thing almost killed my family, January 20, 2012
This review is from: Dyna-Glo 23,000 BTU Portable Kerosene Convection Heater (Misc.)
This thing almost killed my family...twice. Be extremely careful with this Dyna-Glo 23,000 BTU Portable Kerosene Convection Heater. Twice now when I have gone to shut this heater down the unit has remained lit on an very low level putting out large amounts of carbon monoxide. The first time was when I went to shut it down with the release button from a low level setting. Luckily, I removed the heater to the outside and did not notice until the next morning when I went to start it back up and as soon as I raised the wick the unit fired back up without the igniter being used. I also noticed a bad burn type of smell just before starting. From then on I decided that I would always place the unit outside when not in use. Until a few nights ago anyway. It hadn't happened in a while and I fell asleep at my desk. When I got up to go to bed I got lazy and did not remove the unit. I shut it down and went to bed only to wake up about 4AM to an awful smell in the house. The unit was in a closed off porch that was attached but separate from the main house. That was probably the only thing that saved my life. The unit was again still micro lit and putting off massive amounts of CO. I know that the off trigger was completely depressed when I went to bed so the unit should have been off and cold. What I have discovered since then was that if the unit is at its lowest setting when the off release lever is pushed the wick does not always retract to its lowest setting shutting the heater down. I do not know if this is a problem with my one unit or an engineering flaw with the system. My unit was purchased new one year ago and this should not be placing my family at risk. Be very careful when shutting down this unit. It could be the last thing you ever do!
