4.0 out of 5 stars Mud Rock On
I was a fan of Mud throughout their albeit brief period of success(1973 to 1976). I suppose if you have to classify them, they fall under the 'Glam Rock' banner, but think rock more than glam and you are nearer the mark. This greatest hits compilation is a must for all Mud lovers, commencing with their very early hits, 'Crazy' and 'Hypnosis' through to that earlier...

1.0 out of 5 stars Vapid and unorginal. Inspiration for Spinal Tap??
Surely this band was one of the models for Spinal Tap. They sound like they're making a joke of themselves on their 70s glam-rock tunes, and like tired old geezers on their 50s retro songs. Truly awful stuff, folks. This recording will have no interest to anyone other than those who grew up with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mud Rock On, December 26, 1999

I was a fan of Mud throughout their albeit brief period of success(1973 to 1976). I suppose if you have to classify them, they fall under the 'Glam Rock' banner, but think rock more than glam and you are nearer the mark. This greatest hits compilation is a must for all Mud lovers, commencing with their very early hits, 'Crazy' and 'Hypnosis' through to that earlier mentioned peak period, when they had 8 top six UK singles in less than two years. Relive the exciting 'Tiger Feet' and 'Dynamite' and Les Gray's Elvis impersonations on 'Rocket' and outrageously so on 'Lonely this Christmas'. Sadly the boys believed splitting from Chinn and Chapman their songwriters, was the right move, and so began the decline with a move to Private Stock records from Mickie Most's RAK label. Although they scored chart success with 'L-L-Lucy' and the lovely ballad 'Show me Your'e a Woman' and a couple more top twenty hits the writing was on the wall, the hits stopped at the end of 1976, with their cover of Bill Withers's 'Lean on Me'. The band split shortly afterwards with Les Gray still fronting a version of Mud to this day, Bassist Ray Stiles joining The Hollies, guitarist Rob Davis moving into production. Drummer Dave Mount's whereabouts defeat me I'm afraid! If you want to relive your youth or are just a fan of the Seventies and well constructed clever pop songs from a great band, then this album is for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really fine compilation, December 28, 1999

I'm entirely agree with previous reviewer. As one can see this is the one and only Mud compilation which contains their #1 1974 UK hit LONELY THIS CHRISTMAS. Sound quality is good. A must for any 70's glam rock fan. Very similar to THE SWEET.
