5.0 out of 5 stars Children are looking for a "leader"...
This book is for men who want to be effective, involved fathers, which is a heroic ideal today. Many men spend their lives at the office or on the job site "providing" for their kids...only to have them grow up and leave the home without making a real, authentic, heart connection with them. Read this book and learn strategies for becoming a Dynamic Dad...a man...

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading online description!

I will be returning this book immediately, and let me tell you why...

Based on the Amazon description, I was really looking forward to reading this book. I seemed like an honest, straightforward approach to helping men prepare for one of the most important events in their life.

HOWEVER: the online description is misleading as it does NOT...

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading online description!, January 9, 2011
This review is from: Dynamic Dads: How to be a hero to your kids (Paperback)

I will be returning this book immediately, and let me tell you why...

Based on the Amazon description, I was really looking forward to reading this book. I seemed like an honest, straightforward approach to helping men prepare for one of the most important events in their life.

HOWEVER: the online description is misleading as it does NOT convey anything about the author's blatantly religious perspective. Had I clicked on the "more about the author" link I would have deduced that BEFORE wasting money on this book. Being rabidly averse to having others shove their religious beliefs down my throat I was very frustrated and offended by this ruse.

Why is it a ruse, you ask? If I may quote from page XI of the introduction ...
"Let me plainly state that I write from an evangelical perspective or worldview. This view upholds the judeo-christian foundation of the fatherhood of God and the explicitly christian belief that his son, jesus of nazareth, the lord christ, joins with the holy spirit in a trinity of unity."

Now, I know that I will likely raise the ire of people who buy into the outdated concept of organized religion, but reading this paragraph (among others) in just the introduction of this book made me vomit in my mouth a little. Last I checked, Christianity does not hold a patent on "family values".

If this author is so up-front with his approach and his beliefs, then the supposedly (judeo-)christian thing to do would be to be HONEST with your potential customers BEFORE they shell out money. But no, instead the description was secularized to appeal to a broader audience (more people means more money, the cornerstone of any evangelical effort). If memory serves, the commandment "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor" also covers lying, lying via ommission, and fradulent actions. I guess that only applies when it doesn't interfere with one's revenue potential.

My wife and I are modern-minded, intelligent, free-thinkers, and we do not appreciate being misguided like this.

That is why I am returning this book.

BOTTOM-LINE: If you're into maintaining the strangle-hold that fundamental organized religions have on modern society, then this is right up your alley. But... If being bludgeoned with bible-quotes is not your thing, stay far far away from this book.
