He uses his extensive experience as a trader and trading systems designer to provide ten basic principles that are at the foundation of every successful trading methodology." -Leo Melamed, Chairman Emeritus and Senior Policy Advisor, Chicago Mercantile Exchange; Chairman and CEO, Sakura Dellsher, Inc. "Howard Simons's engaging, colloquial manner makes The Dynamic Option Selection System: Analyzing Markets and Managing Risk an enjoyable read for even the most accomplished professional hedger. His ample use of real-life stories, like parables, illustrate the nuances of trading and the complex and opposing interests of buyers and sellers in the marketplace." -Jack Wing, Executive Director and Professor, Center for Law and Financial Markets, Illinois Institute of Technology "It is the risk of potential reward that motivates many traders in today's markets. Employing Howard's ten simple principles allows us to 'put ourselves in the position where the accidents will work in our favor' so that we can remain 'In the Game'." -Bennett J. Corn, President and CEO, Winnipeg Commodity Exchange; Former President, Coffee, Sugar & Cocoa Exchange, Inc.

From the Inside Flap

The Dynamic Option Selection System Options are among today's most versatile and potentially rewarding investment vehicles. They can also be difficult to master. In this comprehensive guide to options, leading trading systems designer, market analyst, and trader Howard Simons gets you up and running with the knowledge and skills you need to exploit options' full potential as profit-making or hedging instruments. The first part of the book is devoted to a practical exploration of the mechanics of options trading, market analysis, and risk management. Simons coaches you in the all-important principles of price theory, price analysis, and price insurance as they apply to both the commodities and financial markets. He provides valuable insights into the nature of volatility and market expectations. And he describes proven risk management techniques that can easily be incorporated into a rigorous trading program tailored to your unique style and goals. Throughout this and the following section of the book, dozens of high-quality graphs, charts, and other visual aids help bring the many abstract principles and processes covered down to earth for investors. In the second part of the book, Simons builds on the ideas expounded upon in the first, to develop an innovative new options trading methodology-the Dynamic Option Selection System. Based on an extremely accurate, wholly mechanical approach to predicting market movements across the dimensions of price, volatility, and investor expectations, the System succeeds by all but eliminating the need for subjective decision-making in option selection. As Simons demonstrates with the help of numerous real-world illustrations, when properly employed, the System provides a very dependable means of minimizing risk and maximizing returns in both the commodities and financial markets. The Dynamic Option Selection System is a complete primer for canny individual investors getting started in options and a cornucopia of valuable insights and ideas for experienced options traders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Lots of great insight, February 25, 2000
Simons book goes beyond the obvious "how do" on options -- which is exactly where more writers leave off. He is able to take very obtuse institutional topics like behavioral analysis and apply them to intermarket analysis. This is an excellent book for the more sophisticated trader who wants to learn more about options trading in all markets, including futures. Great read and well worth the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Little use for traders, January 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While Mr. Simons is very well versed in all aspects of market fundamental analysis, this book is of virtually no use to a trader like myself. I bought the book based on my knowledge of his previous writings and the book title. The problem is, as he states in the preface.... the Dynamic Option Selection System is proprietary! So how the options are selected in the books text is unknown to the reader.....thats why I bought the book! If your interested in learning a bit about hedging maybe.......but not trading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book, June 9, 2000
Howard Simons' book is a tremendous resource for beginners and market professionals alike. I don't know who this jerk is who panned the book, but he obviously has no idea what he is talking about and ,furthermore, is completely incorrect in his criticisms. All of the equations in this book are correct.
