5.0 out of 5 stars The Admirer's Tale, November 25, 2010
This review is from: The Dynamics of Genre: Journalism and the Practice of Literature in Mid-Victorian Britain (Victorian Literature and Culture Series) (Hardcover)
Dallas Liddle has contributed an absolutely persuasive, strongly supported argument in the form of this book for adopting a Bakhtinian theory of genre for periodical study. As a graduate student working on Victorian periodicals, I appreciated not only the perceptive and detailed close readings but also the overall readability of Liddle's prose. Each chapter is convincing on its own, but as a whole the book is paradigm-shifting. I highly recommend it to anyone seriously interested in how to understand better the Victorian periodical press and its interactions with Victorian Britain's literary genres.
