Dynamite...it is!,
By Mary (Saint Cloud, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dynamite Writing Ideas: Empowering Students to Become Authors (Paperback)
Melissa gives you a golden crutch to use if you are anticipating starting a writing workshop in your classroom and are not sure where to begin, how to continue, or do not have the time to recreate the wheel. She gives you guidelines for daily and weekly activities to use to make this a successful and fun writing time for your students. A must for your writing library of resource books that have practical and workable activities to encourage the success of your students in this, their most important area of lifetime learning skills...written communication.

Usually, when you purchase a book about teaching writing, it is either a text-dense book of lessons to teach students or it is a kid-friendly book of worksheets. This book is somewhere in between. It is tough to describe and is, literally, in a category all its own. I'm still not sure if I really love it, but I do use it. It contains skill lessons that you could use with any writing assignment in several writing genres. I would only recommend it for experienced teachers.
The book has many writing ideas, each presented on an individual page. The pages are full of enough information for the teacher to use them as a lesson outline to teach from. Yet they are also graphic enough to pass out to students as a reminder of what you just taught. I sometimes send students to look at the original book. If you're looking for something new, try it! It may be just what you are looking for! |
