5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game! July 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Love this game! I enjoy both the color version as well as the original version of this game. Well executed. I like how game play is slightly different in the color version, and seeing the results of the completed color images is fun.

It did take me awhile to figure out (while playing the original game) that if you hold down on a square and slide one direction it will fill in all the squares in a line for how far you slide. The price is a bit steep but I enjoyed the first game so much I went ahead and bought this version. Great game! -Rachel (LoveMyFire)

Originally, I gave CrossMe Color a much lower score, but Dynamix has answered ALL my questions and put my fears to rest. Below is my new review (taking their answers into consideration):

CrossMe Color is a GREAT game. It has more Nonograms than anything else I have seen for the Android OS, however the price seems to reflect this achievement.

The object of this game is simple; you have to properly color (or not) the grid (playing field) and form an image. This is done by paying attention to the numbers given on the side of your playing field. Sounds easy enough, right? It's not. This is one of the most difficult brain teasers on the market (and most fun). Think of it as Sudoku on steroids (some of the later puzzles actually make my brain hurt).

The UI is excellent, and while there are no actual graphics to speak of (other than the background), the game does a good job of presenting itself. You can zoom in (required on the larger puzzles) and pan the grid however you wish. The sound, while (almost) non-existent suits this style of gameplay. I would like some music to play in the background while solving puzzles (not just during the level select), but I understand why it was not included (it could distract some people).

My only complaint is the inclusion of Scoreloop (optional data mining and score keeping), some minor spelling errors (hint is spelled as rint, fill is spelled as filled, etc.), and the incessant begging to purchase the original CrossMe game.

The following message surfaces every few games: "Do you like CrossMe Color? Try more traditional CrossMe with original crosswords." You are presented with the following three options: Try, Later, and No.
Try = The Amazon store page (to purchase of the original CrossMe for $4.95)
Later = ??? I have no idea what it does as I always select "No"
No = Keep asking me to buy CrossMe every few times I play.
I chose No and the app asked me to purchase CrossMe again after I loaded the game a few more times. Why even bother putting "Later" into the game as an option if "No" does the same thing?

All problems aside, this game will provide you with HOURS upon hours of entertainment. While I don't think it's quite worth the $4.95 that Dynamix wants for it, it is certainly worth your download as the FAOTD (just DON'T enable Scoreloop).

If they ever remove Scoreloop entirely, I will bump the score up to four stars.
When they fix the spelling errors, get rid of the begging to purchase the original CrossMe, and lower the price, I will also add another star to this review.

I really think Dynamix is onto something here. The game is a great time waster (if you like puzzles), and very few things stand in the way of making this app almost perfect. However, I still don't think it's worth the $4.95 asking price. Bump it down to $1.99 and fix the problems I mentioned, and this game will be pure gold.

I want to give a special thank you to Dynamix for answering my questions and explaining their permissions. Good job on the game!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MY ORIGINAL REVIEW IS BELOW (rating this game a one out of five):

Title: A great game that may have been created for the sole purpose of gathering your data.
It would take too long for me to explain how this game is played. Suffice it to say, it contains a plethora of Nonograms (logic puzzles) to solve and once you understand how to do this, the time simply melts away.

The big issue here is that when you solve a puzzle, you are allowed to "Tell Friends" about it. Clicking this little wonder allows you to "share" your victory through pretty much any means possible. Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, Google+, text message, or about ten other sources. You do of course have to be logged into most of these things to take advantage of this feature. Combined with Scoreloop, I don't even want to think what could happen.

This brings us to the INSANE network permissions for a single player game. These are here solely for the purpose of data mining and "score-keeping" (thanks Scoreloop!). Here are some nice quotes for you all directly from their Facebook page:
"Drive discovery and increase sales" and "Sophisticated social data mining".
You should also read their EULA, which explains that you give them rights to share your data with their "partners", which are many because Scoreloop is owned by RIM.

But the fun doesn't end here folks, CrossMe Color keeps bothering you to buy the original CrossMe (another $4.95 app).
Every so often a window pops up stating this: "Do you like CrossMe Color? Try more traditional CrossMe with original crosswords." You are presented with the following three options: Try, Later, and No.
Try = The Amazon store page (to purchase of the original CrossMe for $4.95)
Later = ???
No = Keep asking me to buy CrossMe every few times I play.
I chose No and the app asked me again after I loaded the game a few more times. Why even bother putting "Later" into the game as an option if "No" does the same thing?

It really is too bad, because I enjoyed my time spent with the puzzles included here. The UI is user friendly, and the sounds are alright. If you don't plan on enabling Scoreloop or using the "Tell Friends" feature (and will play this without an internet connection), you can go ahead and download CrossMe Color while its still free. I wouldn't, because I'm afraid of what the ridiculous permissions combined with Scoreloop can accomplish.

When it does go back to being a paid game, I would stay away. There are plenty of free Nonograms available on the web, and they won't steal your data.

If they ever remove the on-line "features" this game has, I would most likely give this game a perfect score.

EDIT: I am currently speaking with the developer in the comments section of this review. Feel free to chime in. If everything is explained, I will most likely be bumping up my score of CrossMe Color.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Challenging Strategic Game at Higher Levels August 25, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
The tutorial was a tad confusing, but once you start playing the game you quickly get the hang of it. In fact the first easy levels make you think oh this is too easy, who couldn't do this and you zip through the puzzles. Then they get harder and that's where the strategy comes in and you have to figure out what squares need to be marked in the row so that the columns also turn out right. It's fun to see what picture develops as you play the game. Often part way through the game you know what the image will be but even then you are left wondering how to complete it.

As for permissions I believe the developer has explained what they are and do above and beyond the call of duty and I'm frankly tired of good games being unjustly rated by paranoid reviewers. I'm more concerned with what CVS and the grocery store chain do with the data they collect from my rewards card purchases than if a game developer is capturing my mother's phone number or tracking how often I play Tetris.

Solution to level 3.11?
I solved it by trial and error, which is lame, but oh well. Seems to be something wrong with the level, since you should be able to solve without guessing. To help you get started, the very top right square is orange.
