way ahead of its time,
By polo "polo gallagher" (america) - See all my reviews

yeah I can remember, south america wasnt ready for this record back in 1992, we were receiving the first smashing guitars from nirvana and pearl jam, and everybody thought "the louder the better" but not realizing what was it all about. Suddenly I heard "dynamo" and I have to admit that I wasnt ready either, it took me a couple of years til I heard it again, and I just knew it: gustavo and cia were at least 10 years ahead of everybody else!!. It sounds fresh, rumbling, punching (primavera 0), driving (secuencia inicial), organic at moments (claroscuro), filled with electronic gizmos and tricks, drumming loops, this is a very rewarding experience. Soda should have break up after this album came out, it was impossible to top this.Highly recommended.

Total Respect - Progressive might be an understatement,

I never really gave Soda Stereo a chance due to my musical arrogance back in 1993. I can't say that I'm proud to say that but until I heard Dynamo my whole perception of Soda Stereo changed overnight. What an amazing breakthrough album. Soda did away with the normal sounding 'latino rock' syndrome and instead dabbled into audio studio technology, sampling, live drumming to loops (Nuestra Fe) etc.. I can't describe how innovative this material was for its time. I managed to air it a few times on BBC radio and managed aswell to obtain some amazing remixes from this album. (feel free to ask for a copy, e-mail; levi@orange.net). I was told that Soda played a Gig in Chile promoting the Dynamo release and that fans heckled them as they only wanted the old sounding stuff. It's a great shame that the fans didn't open up to something so ahead of its time. What would I give to have had the opportunity, plus to have n-joyed a cool tipple. It's a loud album of which deserves a good audio set-up to extract as much fidelity as it properly deserves.

The Soda Masterpiece,
This review is from: Dynamo (Audio CD)
I was introduced to SS by MTV, of all things. I remember loving the romanticism of Doble Vida, particularly "La Ciudad de la Furia", and later on Canción Animal's more streamlined, rock sound. "Me Sueles Dejarme Solo", with its Rush inspired chord progression (Working Man, anyone?) told me that these guys could rock. But nothing prepared me for the sonic burst of Dynamo. To say that I was floored is an understatement.
This is Soda's best album because it shows a band at the cusp of its abilities. The songwriting was excellent and the execution was flawless. They took their experimentation to a comfortable plateau and it served the songs, not the other way around. And they rocked. There's nothing derivative here. Even the percussive guitar playing of the first songs, which recall The Edge's signature sound, or the lyrical bass lines of Primavera O which also suggest U2's influence, don't say anything other than this is a Soda record. This is not for everybody, but if you're into sophisticated rock music (and this may require multiple hearings) get this album. Even if you don't understand the lyrics.

The best latin Rock and Roll disc Ever,

Simply beautiful, you can listen to it in replay CD for hours... As the cd cover shows it's as loopable as you heart beating. ;) Way ahead for his time, Soda Stereo showed why they still are one of the best Rock and Roll bands in the world. If you liked U2's POP upbeating style, this is for you. Thanks God for the spinning. Gira el mundo. Gira Dios.

A brilliant mix of primary styles,

This is a dark and deep recording. With the help of Daniel Meleros (you can hear clearly this guy's spirit in "Toma la ruta") and the arrival of new sounds at that time, this is one of the Soda Stereo's most complete and mature works. All the songs have their own space and there is an incredible and very ecclectic mix of different styles: the Seattle's sound from the Nirvanesque "Primavera 0" and the trance in "Luna roja". You can find here a comprehensive review of all the music from the early '90's, with great lyrics and top-level production. A must for all those that really want to know what it that little thing called "Rock en español".

El disco mas oscuro y experimental de Soda, con un nivel muy parejo en todas sus canciones. El tema "En Remolinos", el mejor del disco y uno de los temas mas gloriosos de toda la carrera de Soda.

A masterpiece,

"Dynamo" is one of the most underrated Spanish rock albums of all time. Gustavo Cerati took a more electonic approach to this LP, departing from the more traditional rock of "Cancion Animal".
"Dynamo" was produced far from Grunge madness, so the overall sound has more British influences. I've never heard a song like "Secuencia inicial", one would never guess when that song was produced. "Toma la ruta" also follows that example. "En remolinos" is a superbly excellent song. "Primavera 0" is fast and crazy, but not Grungy. Other great songs include "Luna roja", "Fue", and "Claroscuro".

This is an excellent and mature album, clearly the best this argentinian group ever made, and quite possibly one of the best ever in the annals of the history of rock....
But the signature sound of this album (the layered guitars) came 2 years after MBV's Loveless, which is considered by many as the most influential album of the 90's, and deservedly so. I am all for giving credit where it's due, though of course I cannot know if Cerati listened to MBV beforehand; songs like Ameba, En remolinos and Luna roja, could have perfectly fit into a Kevin Shields' album from the early 90's from a stylistic point of view; but certainly Cerati's prowess for arranging melodies is unmatched in any language.

Definitivamente un disco muy elaborado, saliendo cuando apenas el "grunge" daba sus primeros pasos. Lo considero el mejor disco de Soda, aunque "Signos" es muy bueno. Mejores canciones: Claroscuro, Secuencia inicial y Primavera cero.
