This review is from: Dynasty Warriors 4 (Video Game)
Dynasty Warriors 4 is easily the best game to come out of Koei since their very first arcade titles. The game which is based on the great series "Romance and the Three Kingdoms" by Luo Guanzhong is a fast-paced 3rd person hack and slash, but is done with so much grace that it cannot be overlooked. While the gameplay is a little to simple to master, and the difficulties don't differ very much, this game is awesome. With over 40 characters to pick from, 42 to be exact, and different divisions to control (Wei, Shu, Wu) this game can be played over and over again without the player getting bored. Grab a friend and master the whole game in cooperative mode, or dual him in intense one vs. one battles. With unique weapons that belong to each character, a level system to track your players progress, and 4 endings for each division, this game will have you playing over and over to power up your favorite characters. A highly addictive game that will have you sweating when your done. The best of its series, keep them coming Koei!

New Dynasty Warriors Player - XBOX version,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dynasty Warriors 4 (Video Game)
Dynasty Warriors 4 - XBOXIn short, 5 minutes into the game I thought I had just wasted $50... 2 hours later I had decided it was a good purchase. Having never played (or even heard of) any games in this series I picked it up over reading mixed reviews and mainly got it because it sounded like it had good replay value (which it does). Like most games these days, it has many levels, modes, characters, and things that get unlocked the further you progress in the game (like new characters). It is basically a hack and slash game which makes it very easy to pick up and play, but getting your bearings travelling around the map took a little getting used to. After that you can quickly become an expert. So, the +'s, there are tons of characters so it never really gets old, even though you basically do the same stuff every mission, but it's the leveling up of characters spec's and weapons that keep me playing. Also, a BIG plus in my book is Cooperative Mode so you can play with someone less experienced and they can still have fun because you can save their butt if they get in trouble. This is good because playing someone head to head gets boring quickly if they don't know how to play and most games take time to learn player's moves (although not so in this game). There are lots of mode's including one on one match up battles like a 3-D fighter game, although if you are looking for that look elsewhere because that is not what this game is about and therefore does not excel in this category. Basically you run around and beat people up and score better leveling-up points by killing enemy officers and lots of enemy troops. Does the game take lots of skill? I'd say no, but that doesn't detract from the fun of picking it up and beating the crap out of an enemy horde. The framerate does slow up a bit when there gets to be lots of people on the screen but it's really not that bad. The only other gripe I have is sometimes it's hard to see the enemy commander you want to attack if they're surrounded by both your allies and his own troops, but hey that's war right? All in all it is really fun to play. Don't be deterred by a low rating, because the game is the 4th in the series and since not much has changed most reviewers mark it down. On its own it is a great game to play and has kept me obsessed for the past 3-days. Expect to sit down for at least 30 minutes at a time, but don't be surprised if you get up 3 hours later wondering why you're hungry because you forgot to eat dinner. I am very satisfied with this purchase and only have trouble deciding which character I want to be. (Not that it matters, but I am in my early 20's and out of college; it is my opinion that this game would be fun for both teens and adults).

MAKE SOME NOISE! (About this game),

Do you know how great this game is?!?! I love the fact that you can create your own officers. But, then again, I love any game where you can create players. The gameplay and graphics are so much better than 3, and I like being able to earn guys like Cao Ren. They rock! Basically what I'm trying to say is that compared to this game, Dynasty 3 sucks.

backround- this game takes place at a time with different dynastys, you can choose a real warrior, or create your own (dyn 4 exclusivley), this is a must have for people who are un aware of the game series. My opinoin- SUPERB- i love the series, so many characters and so much replay value, you can take on literaly thousands of enemies and with red, blue, and green dynasties, you can play throug the literaly 40 something characters roles and see different dynasties fall, rise and see your own character develop PROs among best 3rd person games, coop AND vs mode cons- you will only want to play a level or two at a time due to the fact that it's the same thing. but it's still fun

Some better, some not,

Great game, kept alot of the great things but blundered on just a couple. Huang Gai is jacked up on the grenade toss, where's the choice of language spoken, and some events like Sun Jians's death not appearing. Other than that they did a great job with adding a few new types of cut scene, varying just a few attacks, and giving LuBu a mosou mode. New characters Zhou Tai, Cao Ren, and the edit officers are a big plus so I'd rather give the game a 4.5. I recommend it for those who were really good at 3 but need a new challenge. I was getting to the point where I'd take a new general to a level on hard to earn 3rd weapons before beating mosou mode with them, so the new challenges are great.

You go around as a warrior in ancient China, slaying your enemies and using different tactics, i guess.. but basically I go on a slaying spree, it's awesome. You can ride on horses and even elephants.. and there's 3 kingdoms and some others.. and there's alot of different characters to choose from. I can play this game for hours. IT'S LOTS OF FUN!!

Ever heard never judge a book by its cover? This is an example. Look at the cover, its not to interesting right. But once you play it, you cant stop. It is also like a Warhammer game but your the person. One of the cool things about this game is that you can create your own character(the more characters you unlock, the more weapon you can have). Another cool thing about this game is that every time you gain 3 levels for your weapon, it looks cooler and does more damage. Especially the level 10 weapons. It may seem that once you get to level nine it will stop. But some levels you need to do curtain things and has to be on the hardest difficulty. The graphics are great, and every person has a different voice and saying(except the created people). If your friend is over, you can play co-operative. If your playing that, my suggestion is that one be the commander and one be a guy that is very strong.

Yeah, it's just like the last one, but don't forget how good that one was. Everybody talks about the acion and the sheer number of characters to level up (over 40, each with unique moves), and new items and weapons, and customizeable characters (almost useless when you consider how few options you have), but they leave out how unbelievably FUN this game is to play. I play the same levels over and over and they never get boring. There is a ton of action, but what separates this game from other hack-n-slashers is the strategy. In each level you are but one soldier in an epic battle with thousands of combatants. What you do and where you go decides the outcome. Maybe you can spearhead an all-out assualt on the enemy commander to finish the battle at once, but as you do that, you leave your own commander open to a sudden suprise attack from the rear. As you charge through one group of enemies, sending bodies flying everywhere, you may realise you're isolated just as a trio of enemy generals (who are often each as individually strong you are) rides up on your flank to eliminate you and your bodyguards. This game can be incredibly hard at times, but that just makes you rise to the challenge. When your whole allied force has been all but wiped out and your enemies are closing in around you and you bodyguards, you feel the pressure to fight like you never fought before. Stories within stories unfold during the mousou (story) mode both inside and outside of battles. You gain new characters and receive reinforcements and special items during battles if you do the right thing. You can also be challenged to one-on-one duels by the enemy generals and those are always fun and challenging (but the short time limit is ridiculous). The elemental orbs and special items are really awesome and help turn your characters into super-warriors. The combo system is the most accessible to date, and I love that now you can choose a different general in every battle of mousou mode. I love leveling up my favorite generals (they have six unlockable costumes) and bodyguards (you can now name them). I just wish you could have a sub-general like in DW3 as well as or instead of your bodyguards. Oh well, that and the occasionally horrible slowdown are my only complaints. This game is going in my hall of fame.
