Story
An Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) pilot who calls himself Quattro Bajeena infiltrates the space colony known as Gryps, the headquarters of the Earth Federation's dreaded Titans taskforce. Confirming that the Titans are developing new Gundam Mk II mobile suits, Quattro and his comrades capture some of the machines and then return to the AEUG flagship, Argama. They are accompanied by a young civilian named Kamille Bidan, a talented pilot with strong newtype potential and no love for the Titans. Evading the pursuing Titans and their allies in the regular Federation Forces, the Argama makes its way to the moon, where the rebels receive new weapons and supplies from their sponsors. After capturing several Federation warships, the AEUG gathers its forces for its first major offensive - a massive mobile suit attack on the Titans' terrestrial supply base, the underground fortress of Jaburo in South America.

Gameplay
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2, like its predecessor, is a hack and slash tactical action game based on several different anime within the popular and long-lived Gundam series. Action in these anime, and thus within Gundam 2, is based around combat that utilizes in-game mechanized mobile suits and the player's ability to pilot them in combat against hordes of similarly equipped enemies. The goal in this combat is to level up your chosen character and suit by doing enough damage against the low level enemies you face, and wherever possible, the huge boss character/mechs that are associated with the particular level you find yourself on. Gundam mobile suits feature laser swords, guns, as well as propulsion mechanisms, together which can be used in a few varieties of standard and charging attacks, as well as attacks designed to knock out all enemies within a certain range by charging a power gauge before acting. As you would expect, successful attacks against bosses require much more work and precision, and in many cases rapid input of button prompts flashed during combat.

Multiple Play Modes
Gundam 2 also provides players with a few different play mode options. 'Official mode' is a default campaign where players attempt to level up characters by playing through existing plot lines from the various anime subject matter. In this mode you can choose to play from either the good, or evil side of things, but the characters are set. 'Mission mode' on the other hand allows players to mix characters and scenarios from the Gundam universe and associate them in different ways for different outcomes. Missions here are divided into several different categories, with completion of missions unlocking further play opportunities and classes of mobile suits. 'Library mode' provides players with background information on all the pilots, mobile suits and battle ships in the game. Lastly 'Versus mode' via PlayStation Network (PSN) allows players to compete against each other in three online campaigns.

Key Game Features:

  • Combines the fast-paced excitement and epic, cinematic action of the Dynasty Warriors gameplay with the rich storylines and characters of the Gundam universe.
  • More mobile suits, plus stories featuring mecha from the latest Gundam series, including Char's Counter Attack and more.
  • Play as any of your favorite Gundam characters and mobile suits.
  • Engage in melee battles against the massive Psyco Gundam, which can quickly reconfigure their bodies into titanic mobile fortresses.
  • Customize your mobile suit with mecha parts collected during battle.
  • 2-player local co-op multiplayer and online versus multiplayer support via PlayStation Network.
  • PlayStation Network trophy support.
More Mobile Suits Than Ever
Because action in the Gundam series is so heavily influenced by its playable mobile suits, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 has been designed to include more of these than ever before. Increasing the 19 available in the original Gundam game to more than 60, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is destined to provide both newbies to the Gundam universe and longtime fans more of the mechs that brought them to the game in the first place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Obviously not for everyone June 27, 2012
By RockAZN
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
This game is pretty much a normal Dynasty Warriors game except for it being based on an anime and having giant robots. Like the title says this isn't a game for everyone in general its a game for fans of Dynasty Warriors, Gundam, or both. The gameplay is simplistic and is easy to pickup and play. The number of mobile suits is large but the voice acting for the characters are a little hit and miss. This is a game that you wouldn't want to spend hours playing since its the same actions over and over, you choose a pilot and a mech, then you enter a mission, beat hundreds of enemies, and take over areas. Overall this game should only be bought by those wanting to play a Dynasty Warriors game or Gundam fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars For gundam fans April 22, 2011
By Shuken
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
If you're a gundam fan, this will be a really fun game for you. The single one important bad thing about this game is repetition.

The enemies soldiers don't provide a lot of fun; other than the fun of owning them. They'll just walk around and shoot their beams or bazooka at you. Even tho the bazookas can knock you down and are sometimes annoying, you'll basically feel that you're doing the same thing over and over again.
However, some of the bosses, like the devil gundam, are really fun to fight against; and they provide a lot of challenges in higher difficulties.

The story mode are fun to play, I played Athrun, Amuro, Char, Heero, etc to their max level and have unlocked everything. I enjoyed it greatly. However, other than their own personal story missions, they all share the same set of the extra missions. After their personal missions, you simply just repeat all of the other battles again and again, and everything will be unlocked.

The many Musou abilities of different gundams are really fun to use. Even tho some of those fun abilities need an ally nearby or need a low hp level to use, you can use abilities to make tem activate all the time. For example, Wing zero's musou will shot 360 degrees several times, killing almost everything nearby.

3.0 out of 5 stars See Giant Robots Fighting! May 11, 2009
By Siege
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
So-called professional reviewers love to hate the Dynasty Warriors series. Calling it repetitive and stale. I call it old fashioned arcade fun and a throw back to classic kung fu movies. As usual in a DW game, you play the lone warrior against a sea of countless enemies.
This time you are piloting a giant mech against other equally large (and sometimes larger) mechs. Giant robots fighting! How cool!
The graphics on the Playstation 3 is certainly not pushing the hardware. But, that is not a real problem. The graphics are solid enough to pass inspection on my HD TV. Your mech is reflects its surroundings and explosions are well rendered. The "draw depth" is better that it was on PS2. It still is not as far out as it should be. Do not expect beautifully rendered environments. They are simply not there.
Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is not for everyone. The mechanics are too simple and streamlined for the hard core gaming crowd. The montony of hack-and-slash game play appeals to a specific kind of gamer. DW Gundam 2 is a lot like shampoo instructions, hack, slash and repeat.
In-game dialogue is totally cheeseball. Think Kung Fu Theater funny. A definite throwback to the 1970s anime that this game is based on. And the backstories are just as laughable. All you need to know is DW Gundam 2 is all about the robots kicking the stuffing out of each other.
There are various story modes available to players. There is some confusion to be made when navigating the menus. File tabs are not the same thing as mission tabs. Why are they there? Back story should be given in cut scenes. Not que cards. This does not help the presentation at all. Speaking of "flow," you cannot just hop into any mission string that appears to be open at the start.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get some fun out of it May 19, 2010
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The game is pretty fun especially in the beginning. I personally liked Gundam Wing so my character of choice was Heero Yuy. You fight through fields of AI drones that generally get killed in a couple of hits. There is just something amazing about battling through hundreds of enemies, does make you feel like an elite pilot. Then you either take the field of a commander shows up to defend it. Down side is that's all the game really is. If you play through the campaign your mobile suit grows stronger and it does get a lot easier. After you play long enough it does get extremely repetitive. The story mode does provide some amusement but its still the same concept of concurring fields and tearing through drones.

So simply it's a lot of fun for a while then it really seems to get repetitive. Renting might be a better option unless you just like unlocking things because there is plenty of that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dynasty Gundam Action! January 17, 2010
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
In all honesty I never really enjoyed the Dynasty Warriors games but when the first DW: Gundam came out I was totally thrilled, the second installment captivated me for hours when i first got my hands on it. I played this game on the Xbox 360 for a while until the system died AS I WAS PLAYING, so after some saving I switched to the PS3. This version is outstanding! The visuals are phenomenal and the gameplay is smooth, far superior to the 360 version. I have been playing this game since it came to me and I love every minute of it!
