Produced by the ever talented hip-hop prodigy Gold Chains, the debut record from Dynasty came out of nowhere with a shot of all-girl punk that's a perfectly refreshing breakup from the slew of quirky releases Tigerbeat6 had released in 2003. Punk that harkens back to the ghosts of X-Ray Spex and Poly Styrene but also has similar nods of the cap to Joy Division and labelmates Numbers. (The latter comparison inevitable, as Indra Dunis serves as drummer for both groups.) But along with those punk sensibilities, there's a shot of bottom-heavy distorted bass and keyboards that gives the group a full sound that is so lacking in many disco-punk albums today. It's full of rockers that don't fail to kick out the jams, with the slightly more down-tempo but somewhat erotic "Wargasm" closing out the record (complete with keyboard solo from Musork's Kit Clayton that could easily be at home on an Anthony Braxton record) in fine form. The chief complaint of Dynasty's debut release is that it is simply too short. Here's hoping a follow-up full-length isn't too far behind. ~ Rob Theakston, Rovi

Some incredibly good tracks on here. Some bad tracks as well. but lonliness and animals are two of the best recorded songs I've heard a in a long time.
