5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT UNIT!
I was looking for a portable DVD player reasonably priced and of good quality. This unit was a great price and performs quite nicely. I looked at other units with larger screen sizes, but naturally the price would rise as did the size of the screen. The Dynex has a 5 in. screen, which is clear, crisp and sharp. 5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT UNIT!, December 10, 2004

One feature I needed was compatability with recordable DVDs, since I have many DVD -R discs that I had recorded on my DVD recorder. This unit plays back all formats with no problem. As far as the sound goes, it has 2 built in stereo speakers, but the sound is minimal. I was not expecting great sound from a portable DVD player, but was quite happy with the sound you get from the headphones, which is rich and full. The unit has 2 headphone jacks. I also noticed that the better quality the headphones are, the better the sound will be. I compared the sound from a lower quality set of phones to a much higher quality set and the difference in sound was quite obvious. But even in the lower quality phones, the sound was perfectly acceptable and quite nice, actually. So imagine the sound from a higher end set of headphones. The battery pack charged fully in less than 8 hours and as I write this, I am watching/listening to a DVD on the unit using the battery pack, and it is performing beautifully. The manual says to expect a 2 hour run on the battery. I intend to use the battery only when using it where unable to use the AC/DC adapter. The unit comes with a car adapter and an AC adapter as well as a set of A/V cables for connection to an external monitor. It also comes with a fully functional credit card size remote control, making it easy to access certain chapters on the disc, etc. The zoom feature is also neat. Overall, I rate this unit with 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great quality and performance at an affordable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little DVD player, January 28, 2005
This review is from: Dynex 5" Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
Like you, I'm a techno geek who covets most of the grown-up toys here on Amazon. In fact, please feel free to send me any item on my wish list!

But as the price of my toys has become outrageous, I have begun to forego some features for quality. And I will pirchase an "off brand" if the warranty and user reviews are positive. So when I saw the Dynex for $119 on sale at Best Buy I jumped for joy!

Now without a doubt, this is a basic DVD player. But every disc (DVD, MP3 and CD-R) I've loaded played effortlessly on it. And it has inputs for my digital camera for an inprotu slide show.

It's not the flashiest player I've ever seen. In fact, its rounded edges remind me of Buck Rogers. The speakers are a little tinny (I use headphones), but the 5" screen is quite clear. There is a nice zoom feature for close-ups and you can zoom and rotate a JPEG image.

My only concer is the remote control unit. It is credit card size, and I hope it is replaceable when I lose it.

In summary, I really like this player and heartily recommend it.

Postscript:

I loved the Dynex, but the 5" screen is just too small for my old eyes. So I exchanged it for a 7" Polaroid player. I will post my comments on my new toy soon.

When I bought this DVD player, I was a little concerned about the screen size. But it makes up for that with a crisp, clear picture. It even delivers decent sound from its built-in speakers. However, if high-quality audio is a must, you'll want to invest in a good set of headphones. This DVD player also comes with a rechargeable battery, AV input and output jacks (AV cable included), an AC/DC adapter, and a DC car adapter. Plus, it can play most dvd formats. It can even play MP3s and CDs. Overall, I'd say that, for the price, it is a good DVD player that only the most demanding user could complain about.
