5.0 out of 5 stars Some very funny songs, November 16, 2003

This review is from: Dysfunctional Family Christmas (Audio CD)
Like all comedy albums, it is hard to really enjoy every track but the first four songs here are some of the funniest songs I've ever heard, Christmas or otherwise. The style of the album is traditional country.

The set opens with a comic look at a family that comes together at Christmas despite the fact that some of them don't like each other. If you have ever had to put up with a relative at Christmas that you avoid at other times, you will identify with this song.

What if Elvis was Santa Claus? The second song here ponders this question though I think you need to be an Elvis fan (as I am) to appreciate this.

Politically correct Christmas is made even funnier by Melinda's delivery - in an over-the-top posh accent. We live in an age where people seem to be over-sensitive and this song shows how silly political correctness can be.

Twelve days of Christmas has been parodied many times but the poor boy's version here is surely among the best. The unfortunate man describes all the demands made on him by his ex-wife, lawyer, doctor, mother and others, not forgetting to mention that the factory where he works is about to close. Jerry Pate's delivery is impeccable.

After those four songs, the standard drops (understandably) but the remaining songs are all worth hearing. Country fans who want a laugh should try this. And as I write this, it is still available new if you know where to look.
