Grade 4-8-These two titles discuss problems that affect many students. In Anorexia, Nicky, who looks about 12 or 13, decides she's too fat and stops eating on a regular basis. In addition to her self-image problem, the girl misses her father after her parents' recent divorce. She resorts to lying about when and where she eats and finally gets caught. Her mother eventually seeks professional help for her daughter. In Dyslexia, Greg is unhappy about moving to a new town. His learning difficulties cause him to act out at school, which results in a lot of anger at home. His English teacher finally suggests that the boy might be dyslexic and he gets the help that he needs. Both books use the same format: each chapter deals with a different aspect of the subject and is illustrated by a running cartoon story line. Easy-to-read text and sidebars present background, explain what is happening in the story, and give additional case studies. The pages are busy, with several size typefaces, fact boxes, and color photographs. Both titles include listings of organizations to contact for help. A lot of useful information is dispensed in these thin volumes.
