Patented Dyson Technology:Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, trying to find new ways to make their technology work better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions from copycat manufacturers. That’s why the only place you’ll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.
Dyson engineers spent three years developing Airmuscle technology. It combines three cleaner head technologies, which each precisely adjust to clean every floor type thoroughly. A pneumatic actuator pulls the cleaner head deeper into the carpet, removing embedded dirt and pet hair. The powered cam adjusts the brush bar while the cleaner head seals to the floor, focusing suction. And the high torque clutch delivers more power to the brush bar – opening the carpet pile to dislodge dirt.
Root Cyclone Technology for No Loss of Suction
Ordinary vacuum cleaners rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. As you use them, the tiny holes in the bag clog up with particles of dust. This restricts the flow of air, so the vacuum cleaner loses suction. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. They use patented Root Cyclone technology, which spins the air at incredibly high speeds. The cyclones inside a Dyson vacuum cleaner generate centrifugal forces many thousands of times the force of gravity. Dust, dirt and pet hair are flung out of the airflow and straight into the bin. No bag. No loss of suction.
DC28 Animal Product Features:
The fingertip controls automatically adjust (or de-activate) the brush bar for different floor types using a powered cam. No bending down. No awkward dials.
Single-action wand with instant 17 ft reach, for stairs and high-reach cleaning. No awkward parts to assemble.
Other vacuum cleaners are still designed to need replacement bags, belts and filters. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t need bags and have washable filters, so there are no extra costs..
Dyson cyclones capture microscopic particles down to 0.5 microns in size, with no loss of suction.
Captures allergens, expels cleaner air. Traps microscopic particles down to 1/5,000 of a pinhead. Particles this small include common household allergens such as pollen, mold spores and dust mites.
DC28 Animal is certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
The bin on a Dyson vacuum cleaner is transparent so you can see when it needs emptying – and just how much dust, dirt and pet hair your new Dyson machine has picked up. It’s made of tough polycarbonate and can be emptied with the push of a button – minimizing the risk of contact with dirt.
Three Dyson-engineered technologies adjust for the most thorough clean.
Your Dyson vacuum cleaner is likely to take a few knocks and bashes during everyday use – but that’s nothing compared to what Dyson puts its machines through during testing and development. All Dyson vacuum cleaners undergo a lengthy and rigorous testing program. That’s why DC28 Animal comes with a 5 year warranty – parts and labor.

The mini turbine head cleans pet hair and dirt from tight spaces such as upholstery, stairs and the car. It includes fingertip controls that automatically adjust (or de-activate) the brush bar for different floor types using a powered cam. The vacuum also comes equipped with a quick-draw Telescope reach; the wand releases and expands 16-feet at the touch of a button for stairs and high-reach cleaning. Other features include a 35.2-feet cord length, 5/8-gallon bin capacity, 245 air watts, on-board tool storage, and an ergonomic design with a low handle that feels lighter to carry.
In addition to the mini turbine head, it comes with a stair tool for focusing on dust and dirt from stairs and stair carpets, a combination accessory tool with debris nozzle that converts to a brush tool for dusting, and a Flat Out head tool that articulates for effective pick-up--especially handy for cleaning under low furniture and household appliances. The vacuum measures 42.1 x 13.5 x 14.3 inches (HxWxD) and weighs 20.61 pounds. The Dyson Animal is backed by a 5-year warranty.

This thing truly does have better than average suction. We have a longhaired Australian shepherd whose hairs are sometimes a foot-long, and we regularly have guests, an I'm a clean freak; I vacuum once a day. Yet, with all that daily vacuuming, I was missing so much. I vacuumed my whole house with my old Sears right before I vacuumed with my DC28, and I filled the Dyson canister past maximum capacity, then halfway full again the next day. It's crazy all the dirt and dander and tiny particles that this vacuum kicked up, it was a fine powder. I also cleaned 1 level of my girlfriend's house, who has a Samoyed, and we filled the canister 5 times on a once over and emptied maybe 2 pounds of hair, dirt, dander and tiny particles (she uses an Oreck XL pro). Despite other reviews, this vacuum is not difficult to maneuver; first world problems. It has good suction and it's heavy but it get the carpets clean, which is the whole point of a vacuum, no?
The 4 height options are bare floor (lowest/no beater brush), low-pile, medium pile, and high pile. I have medium carpet and use it on the low pile setting to kick up all the crap in the carpet. My carpets look freshly shampooed everyday. You can feel the suction power in your hand, like using a shopvac. The cord is also really long so you're not constantly having to plug it in to different outlets. As far as the tools go...Read more ›
I picked up the Dyson from a popular retail home goods store for 20% off the MSRP. Assembly was simple. Snap the Quick-draw Telescope Reach(tm) wand into the flexible hose and fit the wand onto the body of the vacuum. Remove various pieces of cardboard. Vacuum.
I live in an apartment with two cats; one of which sheds a lot (we call him fur pants). I had been using a Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Upright Vacuum for about 3 years. It picked up large pieces of dirt, and sometimes the smaller pieces. We used it a lot to vacuum cat litter in the cat's room as well. I've used the attachments a few times as well. One thing I noticed about the Dirt Devil is that whenever I wanted to use an attachment or empty the canister, I had to practically prepare myself for an asthma attack. Dirt and dust everywhere. And the thing is...if I pull out an attachment to clean, the first thing I clean is the dirt that's made by disconnecting the hose from head to the attachment! Anyway, ol' devil started to burn plastic and rubber when I ran it and I'd been looking for a toy. I did a lot of research and almost went with the Bissell 5770 Healthy Home Bagless Upright Vacuum, but I'm a man who demands the highest quality products with proven results and reputation.
The Dyson DC28 Delivers. My wife had vacuumed with the Dirt Devil 3 days before I vacuumed with the Dyson.Read more ›
I have read other reviews complaining that you need to empty the canister after each room. We live in a home with two indoor cats both of whom shed. When we put the Dyson to work in our living room, the results were simply put...astonishing! We didn't get one canister of dirt; we got THREE! Cat hair mostly that the Dyson pulled up out of the carpet. It will be interesting to see how many canisters we get next time we vacuum. Since our house has always been regularly vacuumed and did not look dirty when we started, I would conclude that the Dyson performed in A+ fashion.
One reason we chose the Dyson is because I'm an asthma sufferer and the last time I ran our old vacuum, it generated so much dust I had an attack and had to use my inhaler. Dyson offers a HEPA filter and specifically advertises that their machines are very friendly to allergy suffers. I was extremely pleased that in spite of 3 canisters of dirt and cat hair sucked up by the DC~28 in my living room, I experienced no discomfort whatsoever while using the unit, or thereafter. In fact, after completing the vacuuming, we removed the filter (it just pops out) and inspected it. There was almost no visible dirt on it...indicating that the dust and dander was going in the canister, not into the filter.
The fit and finish of the machine is very good. One thing I appreciated was that it came in a box with a carry handle. The manufacturer had set the handle slightly offfrom the center of the box so that the box containing the vacuum balanced nicely when carried. This is superb attention to detail...Read more ›
