DC28 Animal is a full-size powerful bagless upright vacuum for homes with pets. Airmuscle technology combines three components – a powered cam, a pneumatic actuator and a high-torque clutch – to precisely adjust the cleaner head to clean every floor type thoroughly. DC28 Animal also comes with a Flat Out head for cleaning under low furniture, and a Mini turbine head to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, upholstery and tight spaces. With Root Cyclone technology, DC28 Animal doesn’t lose suction power as you clean. There are no bags to replace and the filter is washable, so there are no extra costs.

Dyson DC28 Animal Vacuum Cleaner
Dyson Airmuscle Technology

Patented Dyson Technology:

Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, trying to find new ways to make their technology work better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions from copycat manufacturers. That’s why the only place you’ll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.

Airmuscle Technology
Dyson engineers spent three years developing Airmuscle technology. It combines three cleaner head technologies, which each precisely adjust to clean every floor type thoroughly. A pneumatic actuator pulls the cleaner head deeper into the carpet, removing embedded dirt and pet hair. The powered cam adjusts the brush bar while the cleaner head seals to the floor, focusing suction. And the high torque clutch delivers more power to the brush bar – opening the carpet pile to dislodge dirt.

Root Cyclone Technology for No Loss of Suction
Ordinary vacuum cleaners rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. As you use them, the tiny holes in the bag clog up with particles of dust. This restricts the flow of air, so the vacuum cleaner loses suction. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. They use patented Root Cyclone technology, which spins the air at incredibly high speeds. The cyclones inside a Dyson vacuum cleaner generate centrifugal forces many thousands of times the force of gravity. Dust, dirt and pet hair are flung out of the airflow and straight into the bin. No bag. No loss of suction.

DC28 Animal Product Features:

Dyson DC28 Animal Vacuum Cleaner
Fingertip floor selector
The fingertip controls automatically adjust (or de-activate) the brush bar for different floor types using a powered cam. No bending down. No awkward dials.

Dyson DC28 Animal Vacuum Cleaner
Quick-draw Telescope Reach wand
Single-action wand with instant 17 ft reach, for stairs and high-reach cleaning. No awkward parts to assemble.

No extra costs
Other vacuum cleaners are still designed to need replacement bags, belts and filters. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t need bags and have washable filters, so there are no extra costs..

Root Cyclone technology
Dyson cyclones capture microscopic particles down to 0.5 microns in size, with no loss of suction.

Washable HEPA filter
Captures allergens, expels cleaner air. Traps microscopic particles down to 1/5,000 of a pinhead. Particles this small include common household allergens such as pollen, mold spores and dust mites.

Dyson DC28 Animal Vacuum Cleaner
Certified asthma and allergy friendly
DC28 Animal is certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

Dyson DC28 Animal Vacuum Cleaner
Clear bin and hygienic emptying
The bin on a Dyson vacuum cleaner is transparent so you can see when it needs emptying – and just how much dust, dirt and pet hair your new Dyson machine has picked up. It’s made of tough polycarbonate and can be emptied with the push of a button – minimizing the risk of contact with dirt.

Airmuscle technology
Three Dyson-engineered technologies adjust for the most thorough clean.

5 year parts and labor warranty
Your Dyson vacuum cleaner is likely to take a few knocks and bashes during everyday use – but that’s nothing compared to what Dyson puts its machines through during testing and development. All Dyson vacuum cleaners undergo a lengthy and rigorous testing program. That’s why DC28 Animal comes with a 5 year warranty – parts and labor.

From the Manufacturer

Specifically designed for homes with pets, Dyson's DC28 Animal vacuum cleaner features Root Cyclone technology to ensure thorough, efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. Additionally, it includes Airmuscle technology, which uses three Dyson-engineered components--a pneumatic actuator, a powered cam and a high-torque clutch--each precisely adjusting to clean every floor type thoroughly. Certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, the unit expels air that contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air thanks to the vacuum's money-saving, lifetime washable HEPA filter.

The mini turbine head cleans pet hair and dirt from tight spaces such as upholstery, stairs and the car. It includes fingertip controls that automatically adjust (or de-activate) the brush bar for different floor types using a powered cam. The vacuum also comes equipped with a quick-draw Telescope reach; the wand releases and expands 16-feet at the touch of a button for stairs and high-reach cleaning. Other features include a 35.2-feet cord length, 5/8-gallon bin capacity, 245 air watts, on-board tool storage, and an ergonomic design with a low handle that feels lighter to carry.

In addition to the mini turbine head, it comes with a stair tool for focusing on dust and dirt from stairs and stair carpets, a combination accessory tool with debris nozzle that converts to a brush tool for dusting, and a Flat Out head tool that articulates for effective pick-up--especially handy for cleaning under low furniture and household appliances. The vacuum measures 42.1 x 13.5 x 14.3 inches (HxWxD) and weighs 20.61 pounds. The Dyson Animal is backed by a 5-year warranty.

I don't know exactly where to start. I've owned a Sears, a Hoover, and an Electrolux (sadly, Electrolux isn't what is used to be). I researched and read reviews on at least 100 vacuums, watched unbiased youtube reviews, and talked to sales associates. After several months, I narrowed it down to the Dyson DC28 and the Miele Titan. I won't waste your time talking about WHY I chose the DC28 over the Miele Titan, but if you would like me to elaborate, please leave me a comment and I will promptly respond.

As far as the DC28 goes, it truly does have incredible suction! We have a longhaired Australian shepherd who sheds hairs sometimes a foot-long, and we regularly have guests, and I admit I'm a clean freak and I vacuum once a day. Yet, with all that daily vacuuming, I was missing SO MUCH, it sickens me. I vacuumed my whole house right before I vacuumed with my DC28, and I filled the canister past maximum capacity, then halfway full again the next day. It's amazing all the dirt and dander and tiny particles that this vacuum kicked up, it was like a fine powder(see my photos above for proof). I also cleaned 1 level of my girlfriend's house, who has a Samoyed, and we filled the canister 5 times on a once over and emptied maybe 2 pounds of hair, dirt, dander and tiny particles (she uses an Oreck XL pro plus I believe). Despite other reviews, this vacuum is not difficult to maneuver; the incredible airmuscle technology suction that this machine has DOES make it *different* to maneuver at first, but I got used to it after a half hour. The machine is stiff at first but if you buy something new, that's very common (mine loosened up after a few days).

The 4 height options are bare floor (lowest/no beater brush), low-pile, medium pile, and high pile.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's an Animal (in all respects) August 17, 2009
This whole time I thought I was vacuuming my carpet...what was my weak vacuum doing and why was I wasting my time?

I picked up the Dyson from a popular retail home goods store for 20% off the MSRP. Assembly was simple. Snap the Quick-draw Telescope Reach(tm) wand into the flexible hose and fit the wand onto the body of the vacuum. Remove various pieces of cardboard. Vacuum.

I live in an apartment with two cats; one of which sheds a lot (we call him fur pants). I had been using a Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Upright Vacuum for about 3 years. It picked up large pieces of dirt, and sometimes the smaller pieces. We used it a lot to vacuum cat litter in the cat's room as well. I've used the attachments a few times as well. One thing I noticed about the Dirt Devil is that whenever I wanted to use an attachment or empty the canister, I had to practically prepare myself for an asthma attack. Dirt and dust everywhere. And the thing is...if I pull out an attachment to clean, the first thing I clean is the dirt that's made by disconnecting the hose from head to the attachment! Anyway, ol' devil started to burn plastic and rubber when I ran it and I'd been looking for a toy. I did a lot of research and almost went with the Bissell 5770 Healthy Home Bagless Upright Vacuum, but I'm a man who demands the highest quality products with proven results and reputation.

The Dyson DC28 Delivers. My wife had vacuumed with the Dirt Devil 3 days before I vacuumed with the Dyson.

5.0 out of 5 stars No regrets August 12, 2009
I bought this vacuum from HSN when they offered a deal with additional accessories and an extra filter. Well, the vacuum is heavy as a previous reviewer noted. However, when placed on the proper setting, it behaved almost like it was self propelled. The key is to follow instructions and set the vacuum on the proper setting before turning it on. It works well on my bathroom tile floors in picking up hair. I'm pleased with the ease of use and the telscoping handle. The accessories are easy to handle. The only cons are the lack of on-board tool storage and the hefty price. My carpet looks soooo much better after using this vacuum for a short period of 1 week. Worn areas look so much better since the vacuum's powerful suction have dislodged packed fibers. I have no regrets buying this vacuum at all. My only regret is not buying a Dyson sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dyson DC28: The Rolls Royce of Vacuums October 11, 2009
We bought the Dyson DC28 after considerable research on line. The Dyson is certainly the most expensive vacuum we ever had but our first cleaning indicates its worth it.

I have read other reviews complaining that you need to empty the canister after each room. We live in a home with two indoor cats both of whom shed. When we put the Dyson to work in our living room, the results were simply put...astonishing! We didn't get one canister of dirt; we got THREE! Cat hair mostly that the Dyson pulled up out of the carpet. It will be interesting to see how many canisters we get next time we vacuum. Since our house has always been regularly vacuumed and did not look dirty when we started, I would conclude that the Dyson performed in A+ fashion.

One reason we chose the Dyson is because I'm an asthma sufferer and the last time I ran our old vacuum, it generated so much dust I had an attack and had to use my inhaler. Dyson offers a HEPA filter and specifically advertises that their machines are very friendly to allergy suffers. I was extremely pleased that in spite of 3 canisters of dirt and cat hair sucked up by the DC~28 in my living room, I experienced no discomfort whatsoever while using the unit, or thereafter. In fact, after completing the vacuuming, we removed the filter (it just pops out) and inspected it. There was almost no visible dirt on it...indicating that the dust and dander was going in the canister, not into the filter.

The fit and finish of the machine is very good. One thing I appreciated was that it came in a box with a carry handle. The manufacturer had set the handle slightly offfrom the center of the box so that the box containing the vacuum balanced nicely when carried. This is superb attention to detail...
