The Dyson AM04 Hot + Cool Fan Heater in White/Silver

Dyson AM04 Hot + Cool Fan Heater with Air Multiplier Technology

The Dyson Hot + Cool fan heater provides the fastest whole room heating in winter, and smooth cool air in summer.

Many conventional fan heaters can’t heat a whole room quickly because they use spinning blades powered by inefficient motors to distribute the air. The Dyson Hot + Cool fan heater does have blades. Instead it uses Air Multiplier technology to amplify surrounding air by 6 times and project heat further. The machine oscillates smoothly to distribute heat across the whole room. In the summer the Dyson Hot + Cool fan heater is a powerful cooling fan. High velocity airflow cools you with an uninterrupted stream of smooth air.

Because there are no blades or visible heating elements, there’s no need for a safety grille and it’s easy to clean. The machine cuts out automatically if tipped over.

AM04 is available in White/Silver or Iron/Blue.

Patented Dyson Technology

Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, trying to find new ways to make their technology work better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions. That’s why the only place you’ll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.

Dyson fans use Air Multiplier technology to amplify surrounding air.

How AM04 works:

  1. Up to 5.29 gallons of air are drawn in per second by an energy efficient brushless motor. A combination of the technologies used in turbochargers and jet engines generates a powerful flow of air.
  2. Airflow is accelerated through an annular aperture. It passes over an 8-degree airfoil-shaped ramp, which channels its direction. When being used as a fan heater, ceramic plates heat the air.
  3. Air behind the Dyson Air Multiplier heater fan is drawn into the airflow, through a process known as inducement.
  4. Air around the machine is also drawn into the airflow, through a process known as entrainment, amplifying it by up to 6 times. The resulting airflow is smooth and constant, with no unpleasant buffeting.

AM04 Hot + Cool Fan Heater Product Features:

Smooth airflow

The blades on conventional fans cause unpleasant buffeting because they chop the air. Air Multiplier technology creates an uninterrupted stream of smooth air.

Long range heat projection

The Dyson Hot + Cool fan heater uses an efficient motor and Air Multiplier technology to project heat throughout the room. The machine oscillates 70 degrees to distribute heat across the whole room.

Powerful cooling

Conventional fan heaters often claim to be effective cool air fans as well. But many have low airflow and velocity – so they’re not. Air Multiplier technology generates high airflow and velocity, cooling effectively with an uninterrupted stream of smooth air.

No worrying burning smell

Dust that collects on the heating elements of some fan heaters burns when their temperature exceeds 752° F. The Dyson Hot + Cool fan heater has elements that never exceed 392° F, so there’s no burning smell.

AM04 doesn’t give off a burning smell

Precise

Target temperature can be selected to the degree, for 32° F to 99° F, and the brushless motor allows you to precisely control airflow power. The machine can be tilted to direct the airflow – it pivots on its own center of gravity, staying put without having to be clamped down. An independent motor allows it to oscillate smoothly to distribute heat throughout the room. Oscillation, airflow, and temperature can all be controlled using the remote control, which is curved and magnetized to store neatly on top of the machine.

Safe

If tipped over the Dyson Hot + Cool fan heater automatically cuts out. And there are no fast spinning blades or visible heating elements, so there’s no need for a safety grille.

This heater is so nice--really heats a room but slowly and keeps it at an even temp.

I've spoken to Dyson, and they didnt give me a clear answer as to why, but said to just return it back from where i got it from.

It is a little pricey but I'm hoping it runs longer then a year like my other cheaper ones.

I'll start with a little scene setting: When the idiots who previously owned my 1914 farmhouse a long, long time ago turned the attic into a master bedroom (guest room and bathroom too), they didn't run the heat vents to the master. Because of this, I turn the house heat off at night unless we have guests. They installed a chintzy little built-in electric heater in the wall. The bedroom is 400 square feet with ceilings 25 feet high in center to 12 feet at the edge. The wall heater scares me. I've made it through four winters just fine, only occasionally needing a second blanket. Obviously we have good insulation, seals around the door to the widow's walk, and good windows (I keep one cracked at all times tho). Then I had surgery in early January and was forced to lounge around in bed all day. My SO stayed home to take care of me. In order to heat the bedroom to a comfortable level, the heat downstairs needed to turned on really, really high.

In checking out solutions, I discovered the Dyson hot was a fan as well. I was sold, having fallen in love with fans at my friends homes on hot, hot days last summer. Also since the heat comes from the center of a void, my dog won't interested. They have been known to sniff the vent front on a fan and that part heats up with a space heater. Also dog hair collects on traditional fans (and therefore heat fans). Pugs shed a lot, but with the Dyson Hot, the fur stays on the ground. But everyone was sold out of them, and the company selling on Amazon was marked up $50 over the $399 price tag. On a post-doctor appt. trip to Bed, Bath & Beyond to buy throw pillows to elevate my arm, I saw the Dyson Hot in white was $100 off (blue sold out, but I was in too much pain to care about the color).

After reading reviews, I did not know what to expect.

I bought this product because it was not just a heater - it is both a heater and a fan. This product works and works well. We have a large second floor bedroom that gets cooler in the winter than the other areas of the house. We have already had temps of 38 at night and by setting this heater at 72 with the swivel turned on and tilted up - warms the room very quickly and then stops while the thermostat waits for the temp to drop. So I do not have to adjust the furnace to compensate for this bedroom. The remote control is extremely simple to use and the read-outs on the front are clear and easily readable. I have tried other heating units and this is by far the best.

There are a lot of negative and positive reviews of this heater and very little in between. Here's my take. First, I paid $260 at Costco...at the $400 list price I would have a different level of expectation, but I'm judging based on what I paid.

It's quiet as fans go...I found it to be a very reasonable sound level. It warms our upstairs nicely (we have a wood stove to heat downstairs...I'm not heating a 1000 square foot detached garage, so I don't know if it's up to that job). The rotating and tilt features are great for our needs to spread the heat around upstairs from the hallway. Controls, remote are all nice, easy to use. It's very small so you would have to practically get on your knees to hit the controls, but the remote eliminates the need for that. The compact cylindrical shape makes it easy to place in small areas. It produces a decent jet of warm air...almost a tube shaped flow.

The exposed surface (inside the ring) does get very warm, BUT not what I'd call dangerously hot. I have a 4 and a 6 year old. If they tried to hold on to the surface as long as they could they might be able to burn themselves, but when I touched it it slowly got more uncomfortable...I pulled my hand away after about 5-10 seconds, unharmed. So I think the kids would feel hot enough that they would pull their hands away well before they got burned. Same for a inquisitive pet sniffing around. With a toddler my concern wouldn't be so much getting burned but knocking it down. I think one could place it outside a baby/toddler room and let it shoot the jet of heat through a gate (leaving 3 ft between the unit and the gate).

It has overheat and tilt safety which I like, although I think the safety shut off for the tilt should kick in a lot sooner...

I chose this because Dyson products have an extremely good reputation. I have one of their vacuums and it's great. This heater is so nice--really heats a room but slowly and keeps it at an even temp. Quiet---no sign of fire or flame or hot tubes. Doesn't use a ton of electricity. So very pleased!!!

I bought my Dyson Hot heater for one simple reason, curiosity.
The Dyson sounded promising and made the pitch that it was something truly new and revolutionary so I bit and got one....a white one!

At first glance the quality looked good, fit and finish were tight and it looked good on the surface.

Sitting down, I kicked back and prepared to enjoy reading the manual....that was short lived as it had lots of information on warranty and legal guck and only the most basic of operation information with absolutely no information showing specifications, no power use...no Heat output....nothing

Moving on I plugged it into the power use tester to see how much power it would consume and in return how much heat it put out at 12 inches away.

Power use was high especially considering how low the temperature it was putting out, for example of the ten temp ranges (here are three examples): Level 1: 1207 watts @ 102 degrees ambient at 12 inches...Level 5: 1280 watts @ 108 degrees at 12 inches ambient and Level 10: 1391 watts @ 105 degrees at 12 inches ambient...I can rub my hands together and get higher temps, these are dismally low numbers when compare to my 5 year old HOTBLAST Ceramic heater that puts out 142 degrees at 24 inches at 750 watts.

True the heater is being touted as SAFE and it is, but it has no more safety features than any $15.00 heater, not even a grounded plug....both have tip over protection and overload protection but claiming to be safe while you sit there freezing as your power meter spins, little conciliation since this is SUPPOSED to be a heater first and foremost not some over priced thing ah ma jig!

Now comes the real fun....
