Cool-looking, powerful, but sadly, badly designed for actual usefulness. Very narrow opening could be navigated with care and practice, but the puddle of prior users' runoff is thoroughly recycled back onto your heretofore clean hands. ICK! Why, anticipating that water from one pair of hands must go somewhere, is there no drain? There are crappy, also-icky floor mats under each unit to catch the water dripping/blown out the side of the machine. Not a proud moment in engineering, I fear. We expect better things from Dyson.

Felt compelled to write this review after recently visiting a bathroom that had one installed. The run off problem left a black puddle at the bottom of the dryer. I don't understand how they can claim this is the most hygienic dryer...I'm sure several types of diseases were incubating in that pool. ew.ew.ew...

Because a closed, sound-reflective space is the best place to run a deafeningly loud engine.

This thing is louder than my leaf blower, and almost as loud as my chainsaw and Vitamix 5200 on "high". For all of those, I wear hearing protection. I don't currently walk around all day with hearing protection, but I'm strongly considering it -- so that I may continue to perform necessary bodily functions.

I was thinking of passively-aggressively hanging sets of over-the-ear hearing protectors above these in my office building as maybe people would get the idea that other people want to retain their hearing when they get older. But they'd quickly become gross since, after all, it's a restroom.

On my floor, they have one installed 2 feet behind the urinals. It's so nice of them to give you a choice between hearing damage and urinating on the floor when someone comes up behind you. Also, it's so awesome to stand in a stall with your ears plugged for over a minute when you really need to sit down and use the toilet, as four sheep line up in a row use this blower and save the planet.

My company recently installed these in a new building. Fewer than 3 months later, they've been covered up.. I suspect they will be removed. Why? They are loud and don't dry hands very well. And yes, like the other reviewers suggest, your hands will touch the sides where everyone else's hands have touched, and the water will be all over the floor.

I also have a Dyson vacuum cleaner which our family loves. But this thing should never have been brought to market.

Not sure which exact model is used at the Grafenwoehr, Germany, Post Exchange (I'll look for model number during next visit); however, when Dyson redesigns for next manufacture, they should consider widening the area where you place your hands. Because if someone only uses water to wash their hands, and I use soap to correctly wash my hands, and touch the surfaces of the Dyson Airblade after the aforementioned person - I could get contaminated by the person who does not know how to wash their hands (that's pretty specific, please let me know in the comments if I'm not being clear). They may have to increase the air pressure to accomplish this, but that should easily be feasible.

I really can't comment on how effectively this item dries your hands but I can say it is LOUD. My 3.5 yr old daughter used it with me while at a gas station and it absolutely terrified her. Please use with caution if you have a child that is sensitive to loud noises.

One thing this world doesn't need is machines that make a lot of noise for no reason. 4-5 air blades firing away in a public bathroom, that's pretty close to torture. I feel physical pain when I slide my hands back and forth in the machine that sounds like a jet engine 2 ft away. I want to dry my hands, not get a permanent hearing damage, or even hear a loud noise. Plus the air stream goes straight up in my face, which is very unpleasant. Terribly designed product.

This hand dryer is a terribly designed overpriced piece of junk. It's nearly impossible to use without your hands touching the drier itself, which collects water runoff and filth. It is stupidly loud and last but not least, it manages to spray water in my face every time I've ever used it. This is one of the most infuriating products I've ever used, I'm serious.
