This vacuum sucks...in a good way!, March 6, 2005
I bought this item under recommendations from a few friends. This vacuum rocks! I have 8 cats, and this thing gets up the fur. It's amazing to see how much junk this thing can pick up in one use! it's also easy to assemble, use, and empty. You could probably get your kids to vacuum with it because it's actually fun to use (and the pretty purple plastic makes it look kinda like a toy). Also, it's surprisingly quiet...not whisper quiet, but much quieter than I was expecting. Dyson's customer service seems pretty good too. I called just to ask some questions about products. The associate answered my questions very thouroughly and didn't try to rush me off the phone. This was quite a splurge for me (I've never spent more than $100 on a vacuum before), but worth every penny.

2 years + and still great, May 2, 2005
I bought this when they first came out over 2 years ago. Still haven't had a clog up in the machine. Works absolutely fantastic on the pet hair. I have 3 rotties and a mini daschund and the carpets are in great shape!! I had one problem with the hinge on the canister breaking, but I called customer service and within a couple days I had a whole replacement canister. No problems at all. Best money I ever spent on a sweeper!!

Premium priced product that doesn't last, there are better value for money alternates, June 10, 2006
My DC07 animal is barely two years old and bits are breaking off already. Factor in the high purchase price with the cost of replacement parts and this is a very expensive machine to own. For a lower cost of ownership buy a fantom cyclone, dirt devil cyclone or similar and throw away when it finally breaks down.
I expect premium priced products to have better perfomance and last longer. check out the Consumer Reports, its not even the best vacuum - and the better ones cost less.
The only reason I gave one star is because that is the minimum. 0 stars from me

Not Worth The Money, March 21, 2006
I fell for the hype about "never losing suction," but I found that it didn't have much suction to begin with. After using it several times and being dissatisfied with its performance on my carpets, I decided today to test it against my other vacuum cleaner, a Bissell, that has great suction. Starting with an area of 5 feet by 5 feet, I thoroughly cleaned with the Dyson, going over and over the rug. Then I went over the same area with the Bissell, and I was amazed at what the Bissell pulled up that the Dyson missed. Lots of cat hair and lots of kitty litter tracked into the room by my 7 cats.

Dead Animal, September 13, 2007
I LOVED everything about my Dyson Animal but after perhaps 6-10 uses it started making a HORRIBLE noise and the beater bar would not turn. Turns out Dysons have plastic gears and they wear out prematurely. I would not buy another one - I loved my Animal but was sad (and ANGRY - they cost a FORTUNE!!!) when it died. Must be made in China - ??? I looked at Consumer Reports reviews on bagless vacs and I did not really find one that met all my "wish list" items - ease of handling, great cleaning, bagless, DEPENDABLE. These seem like simple needs - why are they so hard to fulfill?

So far so good, September 8, 2007
I just got my dyson animal a few days ago and really love it so far. It does exactly what it said it would. I vacuumed with my old hoover bagless a couple of days before trying out the dyson for the first time and the dyson pulled up a ton of stuff. I'm very pleased with the attachments and especially the no-touch emptying of the dust bin, that is my absolute favorite! I think it is well designed and if it stays good for a few years it will have been worth the money.

Not quite good enough-, February 19, 2007
We bought this vacuum because we have dogs and cats and were looking for a vacuum cleaner to really get the floors clean. Early on we had a repair issue which the company did handle. The main problem is that one of our dogs is a Collie and the hair wraps around the brush and we have to spend A LOT of time cleaning the brush. Second, the vacuum really doesn't get my area rugs clean. I go over and over the rugs and still have to get down and manually brush up some of the pet hair. Nice concept but it just doesn't quite do the job. And it's performance doesn't justify the price, in my opinion.
