The Dyson sphere: science fiction comes to life,

I live in a basement studio with two dogs and a muddy yard, and this is the perfect vacuum cleaner for me. How many times has this floor really needed a quick vacuuming, but I just didn't feel like hauling my gigantic machine out and then manhandling it around the narrow spaces? Then spending half an hour dismantling it every time it sucked up a stray cable of yarn from the carpet? Now I find myself pulling out the Dyson just to get the dust bunnies or caked mud out of one corner!
It weighs about nine pounds, it fits in all my narrow spaces without having to move the furniture, the sphere turns on a dime, and it can suck the rust off of an abandoned Studebaker. The attachments click on simply and securely. The roller has a sensor that stops it from turning the moment it detects it slowing down because something is caught in the brush, so it doesn't wind around fifty times. The bucket is easy to clean. It's even light for carrying up stairs, and the stairway attachment is so compact that it does a good job. The Dyson technology isn't really the Dyson Sphere of sci-fi stories, an artificial sphere millions of miles in diameter built around a sun to capture every kilowatt-hour of its energy in order to power an advanced civilization. It's named after James Dyson, the Briton who invented it. He went inside a sawmill and discovered that the walls were not covered with sawdust because it had a giant fan assembly that created a cyclone effect, spinning the dust down into a collector. He immediately thought of building a vacuum cleaner with the same cyclone technology, since the accumulation of dust on the sides of a brand new bag saps half the power of a conventional vacuum within a few minutes after turning it on for the first time. Potential demerits: It doesn't have a height adjustment so it may not be the best for thick carpeting. It's got a narrow footprint so if you have a large area it may require more passes. The power cord is fairly short, but then electrical cords are very heavy and that would just add to the weight. It has a bucket instead of a bag so you have to wash it out when you empty it. That doesn't happen very often in my tiny space but again, the small bucket is not meant for a big house. The larger version of this has all those features you'd want in a big house, but it weighs more and doesn't go into narrow spaces. And when I bought mine, the larger one was actually cheaper. Other companies have ripped off the idea since it's almost too simple to patent effectively. I have no idea how their products compare. I love my Dyson because it is PURPLE!

Well I have the first Dyson Animal and it is a large vacuum. When I took this one out of the box, to my surprise, it was really small! I purchased this one on accident instead of the full sized DC25. Although it is small it has the same suction power as the bigger model DC 25 (my mom owns the DC 25 and I used it while visiting her). The only downfall for me is the smaller canister size as I will have to empty it more often. I have an RV and this vacuum will be the perfect size to bring along on a trip! It works fabulous, it's small and light weight, and it's purple....you can't help but love it! I am disabled and the lightweight factor is a plus along with the ease of moving it around due to the ball. I highly recommend this vacuum!

I bought this vacuum after my Sears canister vacuum finally quit in me. I have mostly hardwood floors with some carpeting and a very large dog who loves to leave hair all over the house. Regular vacuuming is a must! This vacuum is light, surprisingly small, easy to maneuver on the ball so it gets into weird places without having to pick it up, has a great suction, and, best of all, there's no bag. I simply empty it out every time I use it, which is an absolute snap! Dyson certainly lives up to its legendary name with this vacuum!

I have had Kirbys, Orecks, Rainbows, you name this vacuum queen has had it. I even own other Dysons. This is my favorite! It's light and the suction is unbelievable! We have five children and one lab so it does get a work out to say the least! It has never let me down! I would totally recommend this model!

not as powerful as the DC25, but much lighter,
By Chel Micheline "Chel Micheline" (Southwest Florida) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME) I have to say, I *do* appreciate how much lighter and easier this vacuum is to use and navigate. I had a small stroke when I was in my twenties, so my physical balance is a little off and the original Dyson we had was a bit of a bear to use. The DC24 is easy to whip out and use for both quick clean ups and regular vacuuming. We have three cats and three birds, so we're using the Dyson at least twice a day. I appreciate how much easier this one is to grab quickly, but I find it doesn't suck as much debris (birdseed and pellet) and on carpets, it doesn't clean nearly as deeply. That may be because it's lighter- I find I have to sort of PRESS it into the carpet to get it to clean rather than just glide it over the surface. I also don't like the attachment system- you have to pull a tube out of the hose, detach it, flip it, and then clip it back into the hose to use the attachments or wand. That seems like a total engineering fail. I really hate fussing with that. The canister is much smaller, as well, but because we vacuum so often emptying it every other clean isn't such a big deal. I think if we were vacuuming only once a week, it would be a problem. I love the Dyson, but I'm not convinced this DC24 does as good as a job as our original Dyson Animal. However, the ease of use sort of equals that out.

Best vacuum I've ever used!,

I absolutely love this vacuum cleaner. It is by far the best one I have ever used. It's lightweight (I carried it upstairs with two fingers, literally), super easy to maneuver around furniture, REALLY strong suction (you should have seen the crud it pulled out of my carpets), simple and elegant design, relatively quiet (quieter than my last upright that didn't clean nearly as well), telescoping handle so it fits easily in my short linen closet... The only negative I've noticed so far is that the clusters of lint in the canister when I was done (similar to the big lint balls you peel off your dryer filter) didn't just fall out when I pressed the button to empty the canister into the trash -- I had to stick my finger up inside the canister to pull it out. This didn't bother me, but it's a consideration. I was hesitant to spend this much money on a vacuum cleaner but now I'm thrilled I did. I can't believe I am this excited about a vacuum cleaner, but I am.

Awesome Vacuum,

Simply said, if you have an animal and hate dust, this is the vacuum for you. We have had ours for 3 months now and we love it. Dust and pet dander are virtually non existent. We had a BEAM home vacuum and don't even use it anymore.

Underpowered and Poorly Designed,
Bought the Dyson DC24 Animal Ultra Lightweight vacuum based on reviews like these and Dyson's reputation, swallowing hard as I pass on much cheaper options. We have two small dogs, so not a lot of fur around. Noentheless, in the three weeks we have owned this vacuum, we have spent almost as much time dealing with the jamming of the brush bar as we have vacuuming. Jams require disassembling the brush assembly and cutting off strands of fur that have wrapped themselves tighly around the bar. In 35 years I've never had this problem with previous vacuums, even when we had a Golden Retriever. I suspect the product is underpowered and the brush bar design defective. For cat fur, this may work. If you have dogs, buy a cheaper and more powerful product.

Everyone I know loves their Dyson, so when my vacuum broke I made the splurge. It arrived before the email anticipated. Box was sturdy, unpacking was insane, so much cardboard and wrapping. All put together. It came with 2 attachments but only one storage spot, not so thrilled keeping the bonus attachment in a drawer. The canister fills after every use, okay, but id does not just slip out like in the commercials. Sticking my fingers in to pull it out is not exciting, glad my allergies can handle it. It does have good suction and picks up pet hair well yet for the price I am not overly excited the way others are. Oh well.

HUGE punch for a little vac,

We did own a Eurka pet vac about a year and a half ago. My wife and I were tired of lugging it around and getting mixed results. It was good when we first bought the vac but it slowly just started to fade. I tried cleaning it, replacing filters, but it only did ok. Then Dyson had their sale and i decided to buy this DC24, i bought it thinking it was a full size. When i started looking it up i noticed it was a smaller version, which i was a little worried. When we got it in the mail, i opened the box, snapped some parts on and i was ready to go. So install time was like 5 minutes which is nice. Then we vacumed the entire house and filled up the canister a little over half way. This thing cleans so dang good, our carpets really looked better than i have seen ever i think. it's really light weight so stairs bam done.1. Install - really id say for most people 10 - 15 minutes? 2. suction - 10/10 this thing sucks up EVERYTHING 3. weight - my wife can pick it up and clean the stairs and not yell at me because the vacume is heavy 4. This is for the ladies - me the husband vacumes the house 99% of the time now :) If my wife asks me to clean I have no problem! People don't really know what they are missing, yes invest a little more up front but in the end it will pay off. We bought 2 vacumes in less than 2 years. If you are reading this i'm telling you, you need to try this unit out! I also want to point out that amazon (prime membership) sent this to me 2 day mail with some other stuff, and i got it on time. I have had a lot of success ordering from here. |
