Patented Dyson Technology

Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, trying to find new ways to make their technology work better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions from copycat manufacturers. That's why the only place you'll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.

Root Cyclone technology for No Loss of Suction Ordinary vacuum cleaners rely on bags and filters to trap all the dust and dirt. Air is meant to flow through tiny holes, leaving dust and dirt behind. The problem is that these tiny holes quickly clog up with particles of dust. This chokes the flow of air, so the vacuum cleaner loses suction. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. They use patented Root Cyclone technology, which spins the air at incredibly high speeds. The cyclones inside a Dyson vacuum cleaner generate centrifugal forces many thousands of times the force of gravity. Dust, dirt and pet hair are flung out of the airflow and straight into the clear bin. No bags, no loss of suction.

Ball Technology to Help You Steer with Ease Have you ever got frustrated pushing an ordinary upright vacuum cleaner back and forth, back and forth to steer around furniture and other obstacles? Have a look underneath it, and you'll see that's because it sits on fixed wheels- perfect if all you want to do is travel in a straight line, but not so good at corners. Frustration is an important source of invention for Dyson engineers as it sparks new ideas and new ways of solving problems. It was their frustration with fixed wheels that led them to develop a new way of turning corners.

Dyson Ball vacuum cleaners use patented Ball technology to overcome the steering limitations of fixed wheels. They ride on a ball, which pivots so you can steer with ease, changing direction with just a turn of the wrist. The idea for Ball technology came about from a Dyson engineer studying new ways to steer. It started crudely - an old wand handle attached to a wheel. Eventually the wheel became a ball - and an ideal home for the motor.

The ball itself is made of glass-reinforced polypropylene, the same material used in crash helmets and riot shields. It combines high impact strength with resistance to distortion. The ball is also where you'll find the motor. By putting the motor inside the ball, at a neutral point, Dyson engineers were able to lower the machine's center of gravity and improve maneuverability even further.

Features

Motorized brush bar for powerful pet hair removal: DC24 Animal has a motorized brush bar for removing dirt and pet hair that have lodged deep inside carpets. The stiff bristles on the brush bar spin at high speeds - up to 90 times per second- to agitate the carpet pile and dislodge dirt and pet hair so that it can be vacuumed up and removed. If you also have hard floors or delicate rugs, the brush bar can be turned off so you can use DC24 Animal on these surfaces too.

Mini turbine head tool to clean pet hair from tight spaces: Pet hair doesn’t just accumulate on carpets. It also gets stuck on upholstery, beneath furniture, on stair carpets and inside your car. Powered by your Dyson vacuum's suction, the mini turbine head tool attaches to the wand to remove pet hair from confined spaces. It lets you get into all those awkward spots you couldn't otherwise reach.

Approved for allergy sufferers: All new Dyson upright and canister vacuums are certified asthma & allergy friendly by the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America.

Reversible wand: Despite its compact size, DC24 Animal has a long reach wand for cleaning stairs and awkward spaces. The wand on DC24 Animal reverses to reach out-of-the-way spots more easily and with a better grip. There are no awkward components to assemble, and you can also attach tools and accessories to extend your cleaning abilities even further.

Clear bin lets you see when it needs emptying: The bin on a Dyson vacuum cleaner is transparent so you can see when it needs emptying, and just how much dust, dirt and pet hair your new Dyson machine has picked up. Emptying is quick and hygienic- just press the button to release the dirt.

No extra costs: Other vacuum cleaners are still designed to need replacement bags and filter. Dyson vacuum cleaners don't need bags and have washable filters, so there are no extra costs.

Captures allergens, expels cleaner air: DC24 Animal includes a sealed HEPA (High-Efficiency Particle Air) filter to trap tiny particles as small as 0.1 microns. That’s about the size of a single particle of cigarette smoke. Particles this small include common household allergens such as pollen, mold spores and dust mites. I live in a basement studio with two dogs and a muddy yard, and this is the perfect vacuum cleaner for me. How many times has this floor really needed a quick vacuuming, but I just didn't feel like hauling my gigantic machine out and then manhandling it around the narrow spaces? Then spending half an hour dismantling it every time it sucked up a stray cable of yarn from the carpet? Now I find myself pulling out the Dyson just to get the dust bunnies or caked mud out of one corner!

It weighs about nine pounds, it fits in all my narrow spaces without having to move the furniture, the sphere turns on a dime, and it can suck the rust off of an abandoned Studebaker. The attachments click on simply and securely. The roller has a sensor that stops it from turning the moment it detects it slowing down because something is caught in the brush, so it doesn't wind around fifty times. The bucket is easy to clean. It's even light for carrying up stairs, and the stairway attachment is so compact that it does a good job.

The Dyson technology isn't really the Dyson Sphere of sci-fi stories, an artificial sphere millions of miles in diameter built around a sun to capture every kilowatt-hour of its energy in order to power an advanced civilization. It's named after James Dyson, the Briton who invented it. He went inside a sawmill and discovered that the walls were not covered with sawdust because it had a giant fan assembly that created a cyclone effect, spinning the dust down into a collector. He immediately thought of building a vacuum cleaner with the same cyclone technology, since the accumulation of dust on the sides of a brand new bag saps half the power of a conventional vacuum within a few minutes after turning it on for the first time.

Potential demerits: It doesn't have a height adjustment so it may not be the best for thick carpeting. It's got a narrow footprint so if you have a large area it may require more passes. The power cord is fairly short, but then electrical cords are very heavy and that would just add to the weight. It has a bucket instead of a bag so you have to wash it out when you empty it. That doesn't happen very often in my tiny space but again, the small bucket is not meant for a big house.

The larger version of this has all those features you'd want in a big house, but it weighs more and doesn't go into narrow spaces. And when I bought mine, the larger one was actually cheaper.

Other companies have ripped off the idea since it's almost too simple to patent effectively. I have no idea how their products compare. I love my Dyson because it is PURPLE!

Well I have the first Dyson Animal and it is a large vacuum. When I took this one out of the box, to my surprise, it was really small! I purchased this one on accident instead of the full sized DC25. Although it is small it has the same suction power as the bigger model DC 25 (my mom owns the DC 25 and I used it while visiting her). The only downfall for me is the smaller canister size as I will have to empty it more often. I have an RV and this vacuum will be the perfect size to bring along on a trip! It works fabulous, it's small and light weight, and it's purple....you can't help but love it! I am disabled and the lightweight factor is a plus along with the ease of moving it around due to the ball. I highly recommend this vacuum!

I read many reviews & spent weeks researching the model Dyson that I would decide to purchase to replace my DC07 All-Floors. I knew that I wanted a ball & an animal version of Dyson because I have 2 dogs, a cat & O.C.D. I vacuum at least once a day & have adored my DC07 model for the last 5 years.
I have to say that even though the size of the vacuum is surprisingly smaller than my DC07, it clearly states that it is 2/3 the size on the box, so no surprise to me when the cord was a few feet shorter as well. Smaller vacuum - shorter cord. It also clearly states this in a details. But for my large area home, I just use an extension cord for the living rooms. No big deal!
I find the bin is more than a suitable size. I have never reached the max line & I have a very large home with mostly carpet & carpeted stairs. It's also easy enough to empty, who cares? And unless you have a filthy house, I see no reason for the smaller bin to be an issue.
Just to satisfy my curiosity I also compared the vacuuming performance of both vacuums in my home within 2 days. My small test concluded that the smaller DC24 is just as powerful as my immense DC07. The DC24 handles wonderfully & I actually like the handle extension, because I found with the DC07 the hose had potential to break the hose when not fully extended. I find the compact & light 12lbs to be a nice plus as well. I never realized how heavy older Dyson's were until I picked this new one up!
I love it & will never own anything again but a Dyson.
