Dyson refurbished vacuums have been stripped down, cleaned out, reassembled and thoroughly tested. They’re restored to a fully functional condition. In short, they are everything a Dyson machine should be- they work properly and don’t lose suction. Dyson refurbishes vacuums that are returned to us by retailers or consumers. Refurbishing these machines, rather than disposing of them, means that the parts and materials are re-used instead of wasted.

When a machine comes to us to be refurbished, it is first stripped down as far as necessary. Components removed from the machine that meet our high standards of quality are kept and cleaned. Most damaged or broken components are sent away for recycling. The core of the machine is thoroughly cleaned and new parts are added to replace damaged or cosmetically unacceptable parts discovered during the stripping down process.

Just like our brand new machines, the rebuilt machine then undergoes a comprehensive series of electrical and performance tests to ensure that it works as it should. For our vacuums, one of the tests carried out is a suction test. All refurbished vacuums are electrically tested in compliance with electrical and safety requirements. One of the primary differences between a new Dyson machine and a refurbished Dyson machine is its appearance– a scratch here or there or a slightly clouded bin may provide a clue that it has been previously used. After it has passed all of the tests, the machine is then packaged and sent out. All Dyson refurbished vacuums come with a 6 month parts and labor warranty.

I had been mulling the purchase of a Dyson for some time since two neighbors and my wife's parents all purchased the base model. While there apparently aren't many features that make this Animal version much different, I went ahead with this model anyway. I can tell you that you will want the brush tool for stairs as is actually raises the carpet back up just like the main roller does. I haven't used the flat-out tool yet but other things like the selectable carpet length buttons and long cord were both worth the upgrade. As for this model being refurbished, unless you were buying this as a gift and don't want to look cheap, I would recommend anyone look at this option before dishing out the full purchase price. The unit arrived in a plain cardboard box with all the accessories as a new model and I could not see anything that would indicate that it was previously used. The factory cleans every nook, replaces the filters, and I believe even replaces the cord and accessories as they appeared to me to never be used. I thought about the shorter warranty as being an issue but since these are built to be taken apart and be cleaned I think that almost anyone who is handy should be able to tell what's wrong is something were ever to come up. I've notice that Dyson sells replacement parts for literally everything that goes inside so saving half over new would probably take a long time to justify paying new even if you have a couple of things that need replacement down the road.

I LOVE this vacuum and would recommend it to anyone. After first thinking they were a gimmick, then sitting on the fence for a year, I am now Dyson groupie!

I love everything about this vacuum. It has great suction, it glides easily, (I barely have to push it forward!) It's easy to use the hose, and it's super easy to clean. My dog sheds a lot and I am amazed at the amount of hair and debris this vacuum picked up--Right after using my old vacuum (different brand) on the same spots first! This is a refurb but it looks/performs brand new and I'm extremely happy!!

Finally found the vaccuum that takes care of all the pet hair and debris that comes with owning 3 cats and 2 dogs. Powerful and efficient and so easy to use. All other vaccuums continuously clogged up in the long hoses even when emptying frequently, but not so with this one. Buying a refurbished saved me tons of money and when it arrived, on time and in good condition, I would not have known that it wasn't brand new. Great deal, great product and I highly recommend.

A Dyson vacuum has been on my wishlist FOREVER and it was one of those things that my husband didn't want to buy for me because he doesn't think cleaning tools are good gifts, he likes to pamper through gifts, but after 5 years of marriage and 6 broken, suckless vacuums, he FINALLY had me order this one. As someone who hates spending alot of money (even for good quality, reputable products) i opted for the refurbished model to save enough money for me to purchase attachment packs to clean here there and everywhere. So far, in the first week of use, I have used it to clean all the baseboards in the house, the wainscoating (spelling??), the vents for the central air, 3 staircases, every carpeted surface in the house, every hard floor in the house, to reach a cobweb 4 feet above my head and it has not failed at any task! The only thing that keeps me from giving this a 5 out of 5 rating is the bulk and weight of it and the muscle it requires to use the super extenda hose. It weighs a good amount, and requires some muscle to push it on some surfaces (for some reason the thin area rug i have under my breakfast table is a BEAR to push this thing on). It self propels nicely on my regular living room carpet and works great on the wood floor. because of its size, you will NOT be running this thing under tables, under chairs, under the edges of cabinets, but the attachments work great and the suction is fantastic! I was able to park the vacuum on the landing and reach all the way to the top step, which was a nice treat, but by the top of the stairs, I was straining to make that happen. I imagine after more use that will become easier, but be prepared to put a little elbow grease into getting the most out of this baby.... The noise level is acceptable, possibly even a little less noisy than my old hoover, eureks and bissells.

Not that it should have much bearing on a purchase of this nature, but the appearance of the machine itself is SEXY! the gray tones have a lot of luster, the hints of purple (in this model)...what can i say, it is just a pretty piece of engineering.

Overall, so far, I am very glad I spent the money that I did and now that I have experienced it, I think i would gladly have paid the money for a brand new model as well! Happy sucking! Read more ›

The item listing doesn't make this clear: Warranty is only six months, not five years like a new unit. We have had ours for less than a month and it is broken. We spoke to the Dyson hotline but we have to take it in to be repaired, which means being without it for 7-10 business days, and there is no guarantee that the repair is covered (it likely is, but they can't say for sure). I had heard fantastic things about Dyson and had given one as a gift a few years ago that the recipient raves about, but I can't recommend this factory-reconditioned model at this point.

Update: The problems with the vacuum were that the main circuit board for the whole unit was bad, along with the motor for the brushhead (main portion of the machine). So basically, the computer that runs it and the main motor that the computer runs were not functional, after just three uses. Fortunately, all the parts and labor were covered under warranty, but I am very concerned about more going wrong and the limited time in which Dyson will cover them. The cost of parts alone in this instance was nearly what I paid for the vacuum (and that's cost on the dealer's invoice, which is presumably before retail mark-up). With labor I'm sure it would have exceeded the price I paid for the unit by a good margin.
