Dyson DC56 Hard

The Dyson Hard DC56 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is engineered for hard floor cleaning. Using dual vacuum suction channels and a wet wipe, it removes both dirt and grime in a single action. • Docking station
  • 9 Dyson Hard floor wipes

Patented Dyson technology

Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, finding new ways to make their technology work better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions from copycat manufacturers. That’s why the only place you’ll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.

Double-edge cleaner head: DC56 has a double-edge cleaner head that combines suction and wet wiping to remove dirt and grime at the same time. Dual vacuum suction channels provide suction before and after the wipe. A swivel neck allows the double-edge cleaner head to be guided into awkward places with a turn of the wrist.

Root Cyclone technology: Patented Root Cyclone technology generates high centrifugal forces that cause dirt to be flung out of the airflow and into the bin.

Powered by the Dyson digital motor V2: The Dyson digital motor sits at the heart of DC56. It spins up 3 times faster than conventional motors, enabling powerful constant suction.

Lithium-ion battery: DC56 is powered by a fade-free 22.2V lithium-ion battery. It provides 15 minutes of high constant suction, or 6 minutes of higher suction in boost mode for more difficult tasks.

Dyson Wipes: DC56 comes with 9 Dyson Hard floor wet wipes – designed to remove dirt grime from hard floors, including hard wood vinyl, glazed tiles, laminate, polished marble and polished granite.

Additional Features

Cleans down below: DC56 has a low-profile cleaner head for easy cleaning under furniture and counters. It stays flat to the floor when the machine is fully reclined.

Cleans up top: DC56 comes with crevice and combination accessory tools, which attach to the wand for easy high-reach cleaning.

Adaptable: With its additional tools, DC56 can also be used as a handheld.

Ergonomic design: The center of gravity is located toward the grip for easy handling – whether you’re cleaning up top, down below or in-between. The handle is designed to fit naturally into the shape of the hand.

Trigger controlled: DC56’s instant-release trigger ensures that suction power is only used when it’s needed, and isn’t wasted between tasks.

Docking station: DC56 comes with a docking station, which stores the machine while it’s charging. It also holds additional tools.

Tough construction: DC56 is made from the strongest materials available, selected for their durability and lightweight properties.

2 year parts and labor warranty: Your Dyson vacuum cleaner is likely to take a few knocks and bashes during everyday use – but that’s nothing compared to what Dyson puts its machines through during testing and development. All Dyson vacuum cleaners undergo a lengthy and rigorous testing program. That’s why DC56 comes with a free 2 year warranty – parts and labor.

Tough construction: DC56 is made from the strongest materials available, selected for their durability and lightweight properties.

I am owner of a DC-31 handheld. Loved it so much I got a DC-44 animal for general hard floor and carpet sections. I also own a lot of hard floor tools such as Swiffer (dry and wet pads), and Swiffer WetJet (push button electric power sprayer), and the Evolution Robotic "Swiffer".

My steps for cleaning kitchen/nook area's hard floor (15' x 10' area) after a meal are:
1. Use DC-31 or DC-44 to vacuum up breadcrumbs, loose rice, and other small food bits
2. Use wet Swiffer, and re-wet pad once or twice if needed

So when I first heard about this new invention and saw the videos, I was very excited in hope to consolidate two steps into one (suction and wiping). So excited that I headed directly to a local retailer to get one on launch day! I opened the box, charged the unit, and waited to use it after dinner.

Normally I dread for choirs after a meal, mainly because of my two kids (a.k.a. leaky food processors). But not this day! I encouraged everyone at the table to eat fast and loose, and encourage droppings like bread crumbs, fried batter cruds, individual rice (sticky), crushed cookies, and other food bits! To make this event more exciting, I swept all cruds off the table straight to the floor! These are bits that can be picked up by my Dyson handhelds, but I really wanted to do both vacuum and wipe at the same time!

When its show time, I fired up this Dyson Hard to begin suck and wipe...

After few back and forth sessions... sigh...

Got some each time, but took a lot of back and forth. Some the machine got after lifting the tool up a bit (to bypass the "squeegee"). Some just too big for it (but easily sucked up by DC-31/44's crevice tool).

To be fair, it is advertised to "vacuum dirt" and "wipe grime".

The suction is good like other Dyson vacs, but the opening won't pick op anything other than small dirt and dust particles. Pet hair and other larger particles just gather at the front of the cleaner head and need to be picked off. A glob of dirty, wet dog hair is what I had to deal with every few minutes. The soft squeegee projection in the cleaner head is the cause. The cleaning wipes dry out too soon because of the airflow around them.I just took the floor attachment off and used the open end of the hose to pick up larger particles of debris. I got half-way through a 12 x 12 room and the wipe was dry. There are other attachments for cleaning above the floor and they work well because of the larger opening. If you want to dry vac and use the cleaner head as a floor vacuum with out the wet wipe attachment,it won't pick up anything but dust. I think I'll buy the floor vac attachment for $39.99 and just use it as a cordless vac.

We are sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with the wet cleaning feature of your DC56. We may have a few recommendations that will help. Please email askdysonus@dyson.com and we will be in touch. Also, if debris is too large for the cleaner head we suggest using the wand or combination tool. Both items are engineered with a wider nozzle for quick pick ups.

I live in a very small apartment with hardwood floors plus have two very hairy dogs. I went ahead and spent the money and purchased the Dyson Hard. I've been using it for a few days now and here are some of my thoughts.

1. Simple to setup and use. It was easy to get started, although I at first thought it wasn't charging because the light on the unit did not light up when I plugged it in (no, I did not read the directions). I realized the light on the actual plug shows you when it has charged.
2. I bought a 36 pack of Swiffer wet mopping refills and they work with the Hard just fine. I found the Dyson wet pads do not last very long, although they do smell nice. They also left some streaking on a laminate hardwood floor in a portion of my apartment.
3. It doesn't pick up everything. It has some trouble with large "dust bunnies" and they tend to get wet and spit back out on another portion of the floor.
4. I wish the unit had an adjustable height - I find myself bending over to a lot, especially when I have to scrub some dirt off the floor.
5. The unit is fairly quiet. I thought it would be pretty loud. The noise does go up when you have it on the "max" mode.

Overall, I am pleased so far with the Hard. It saves time, and works with other mopping products which is a huge plus. I would caution people with laminate floors because of the streaking, but perhaps I am just using the wrong wipes. I will try to post more when I've used it for a while longer, but so far so good.

I have purchased a couple of the larger Dyson vacuum cleaners and have always been so impressed. I bought this thinking it would be awesome to clean the floors and vacuum at the same time. I put the wet pad on it and went to work. It cleaned about a 1/4 of my bedroom and the floor was no longer getting wet from the pad. I looked at the pad and it was still wet by touch but the floor was not. I then used a spray bottle of wood cleaner and would spray a section and then went over it. Talk about extra work!!! I would not recommend this

You will get three sealed packets of wet wipes (9 uses) with this. The suction isn't as advertised. The result on my laminated wood floor was excessive streaks and stickiness. Once my floor was "cleaned" using this product my socks wanted to stick to the floor when I walked on it and it looked aweful. I ended up cleaning again the old fashion way. For what is touted and at a very high cost, Dyson apparently thinks that putting their funnel tech on a handheld and charging and arm a leg is good enough. Don't buy this.
