another great band from the great north,
This review is from: Dystopia (Audio CD)
i give it four stars because not every song is worth listening to. 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and 10th track are the best ones on the album the rest are good because its heavy but bad because they sound the same. which is normal for beneath the massacre but it doesnt take too much away from the album.

A Massacre alright...,
This review is from: Dystopia (Audio CD)
I'm sure most of you have seen THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, right? It's not only a staple among Horror fans, but among Metal fans as well. Well DYSTOPIA by the Canadian Tech/Death Metal band Beneath The Massacre is the musical equivalent of a chainsaw-wielding homicidal maniac unapologetically ripping through anyone unfortunate enough to get in his way. From the album opener "Condemned" to the closing track "Procreating The Infection", DYSTOPIA is a non-stop assault on the eardrums. It's unrelentingly brutal. It's an ugly masterpiece. There is never a dull moment on this album and the momentum of the fast and hard Death Metal presented on this album never slows down.
I have always been a Death Metal fan, just not really into the whole "scene", if you will. Before this I had never even heard Beneath The Massacre, but have heard the name before. I thought I would give them a try and start with this album, and all I can say is that I'm glad I did. I don't have any of their past material to compare this to, but if any of their other stuff is like this then Beneath The Massacre has just gained a new fan. There are no tracks on the album that stand out because they're ALL good! The drums consist mostly of blastbeats while the guitar work is just all over the place and really Tech-y, occasionally stopping at the drop of a dime before going into heavy, pounding breakdowns. The vocalist is definitely one of the most impressive Death Metal vocalists I have ever heard. There are no Six Feet Under/Cannibal Corpse style screeches and absolutely NO singing. It's all just straight Death Metal growling and Beneath The Massacre's vocalist sounds like the Cookie Monster possessed by Satan himself. The formula is pretty much the same throughout the entire album, but it's done extremely well. With the year 2008 drawing to a close, it's safe to say that DYSTOPIA is definitely one of the best Death Metal releases this year and one of the best Extreme Metal releases this year, hands down. Highly recommended. 4.5 stars |
