5.0 out of 5 stars Works as promised! Installation a snap!
Having read some of the reviews for other Bluetooth adapters out there, I was a bit reluctant to get a product from a relatively unknown maker. I'm glad I gave it a chance!

I installed it on my home XP Pro (SP1) system on a USB 1.1 (powered) hub! It installed in minutes, and a couple of clicks after that, I was synchronizing my iPAQ 2215 via a bluetooth...

1.0 out of 5 stars the apotheosis of plug and pray
I'm quite curious where in the manufacturer's website I can find the updated XP drivers, as the previous reviewer has pointed out. After struggling for 2 hours to get this device to work with both a Motorola V505 and my friend's Sony Ericson Twhateveritis, I nearly wanted to break it. Having read some of the reviews for other Bluetooth adapters out there, I was a bit reluctant to get a product from a relatively unknown maker. I'm glad I gave it a chance!

I installed it on my home XP Pro (SP1) system on a USB 1.1 (powered) hub! It installed in minutes, and a couple of clicks after that, I was synchronizing my iPAQ 2215 via a bluetooth connection.

This item comes with short USB extension cable. I won't use it since I think it's safer to have the adapter securely plugged into my hub, but I do understand why some people may find it helpful. The adapter itself is very compact, and it doesn't take up more than its share of space on my hub, thus allowing me to use all the plugs next to it.

There are two versions of the latest software for this model, depending on your unit's serial number... Make sure to select the correct one if you download the latest drivers.

There isn't anything special about the design or looks of this small adapter, but so far it's worked perfectly for me. I don't know the exact distances but I've been able to connect my PDA from anywhere in my apartment.

I hope you have a similar experience to mine!

After installing the drivers that came on the CD, the thing is able to recognize both Bluetooth devices, but that's pretty much where it ends. I could not get any data transfer or further communication. I went to the manufacturer's website and there are no drivers to be downloaded. If there's a way around this, please post it. Otherwise it's going to be another lesson relearned: you get what you pay for-- if you buy it cheap, you're going to have to buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars works great, June 8, 2004

This adapter works very well compared to the Sony bluetooth adapter I tried (and returned). The Ambicom has good compatability between brands, and the software enables you to link easily with different services. There is even an option in the software to set up an ActiveSync connection, and a proxy internet connection for your PPC. Now my ipaq and vaio can sync easily without wires, using ActiveSync. In the setup, getting the COMport numbers correct can be a bit tricky -- it's important to pay attention to the steps in installation, and to consult your PDA manual. Also, I find I need to connect to ActiveSync (on the ipaq) through the bluetooth manager, which is easy, no problem. Once it's set up, it connects perfectly every time. A relief, after struggling with the Sony adapter and software -- and the Ambicom is half the price -- so I give this one 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly, once you download updated drivers., July 20, 2004

Download the updated drivers from the manufacturer's website to make this product work well with Windows XP. The real manufacturer is in Taiwan, and has no english webpage, so tread carefully. For me, it was a great deal and works great with my Sony Ericsson T637 from AT&T.

2.0 out of 5 stars AmbiCom BT2000C-USB Adapter, August 27, 2009

This review is from: E-Book Bluetooth USB Adapter (BT2000C-USBC) (Personal Computers)
Wow, was I surprised to find that I had been duped! The picture on Amazon shows the AmbiCom BT2000C-USB bluetooth adapter I was looking for; but I was shipped a generic no-name "Made in China" adapter instead. I was very disappointed because my old AmbiCom had quit working and could no longer read and backup the address book from my cell phone.

The product I received was called a "USB Bluetooth Dongle 10M, Ver 2.0+EDR" which is also available from Amazon on another page, but for 1/10 the price I paid here. I contacted eForCity to request a return authorization and refund, and after some discussion I got my money back.

On a positive note, after downloading the drivers I was able to communicate with my Motorola E815 phone and backup the address book. However, I don't know yet if I will be able to update the Motorola firmware. Here are the five drivers that this adapter required for Windows XP: ISSC Bluetooth Adapter, RFComm Protocol TDI, Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator, Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network), and Standard Enum Over Bluetooth Link.

This device never worked properly. When I checked for a software upgrade, the manufacturers web site stated that the security settings had been tampered with and prevented me from downloading an upgrade. Besides the fact that the circuit board was enclosed so as to block the LED indicator, I think this is repackaged garbage.

It is a good product to have just a little hard to get the right programming for window vista. Gotta look for it other than that it works great.
