I have used this book for a course at the undergraduate level, titled "Global Electronic Commerce (GEC)".

This book has in-depth coverage of the technical terms, infrastructure, and case studies. I like the way authored presented E-commerce as business, technology and society.

The "Insight on Society" is a quick read to understand companies and issues such as Foursquare, Smartphone Security, Who is on your website? The payment methods were covered in details. If you teach MBA class, this book is excellent.

Most Americans use Google FaceBook and YouTube (GFY), but never paid anything. GFY is not E-Commerce. It is a hard concept to teach the young people today. Amazon, Priceline, Expedia, JetBlue are the E-Commerce success stories.

The only drawback of this book, is the lack of coverage of successful GEC firms. What I did is to ask students to do research on European discount airlines: Ryanair, EasyJet, AirBerlin, etc. They are doing this as their final project in teams. Students love this book and enjoy the course.

The next step is to start a website, and sell to the 6.2 billion potential customers in the world!!!

If you want to learn about e-commerce, this is a great book. It is not a how-to book, but gives you a comprehensive overview about the basic fundamentals of e-commerce. It is up to date, with alot of current data and information. Most of the chapters have a table at the beginning about what's new or important trends for 2011-2012, which is helpful. For a textbook, it is very readable -- there are case studies at the beginning and end of each chapter, and also shorter ones within the chapters that are like magazine articles and very interesting to read.

I am in a new role where I am working on eCommerce learning plans for a large packaged goods manufacturer. I'm not a student and I don't have the luxury of spending 3 months to get up to speed on the topic so this book was perfect. The content is probably topical for at least another 12-18 months. If you need guidance in this space fast I felt this book was worth the investment.

Overall the book was in decent shape for being a rental. I needed it for a Class and did not want to buy the book. I rented it from Amazon for only $40!!! (compare to the almost $200 to buy it) The book is a good read, however the physical shape is a bit off. The binding has come apart. I am still able to read and complete my coarse work, just the binding is irritating and the fact that some things are written/underlined in the book, which are a bit distracting.

This book is quite interesting and most relevant for our time. I got this book for my E-commerce module within a Masters ISM program that I am pursuing. The writers Laudon and Traver have covered different aspects within E-commerce. Each concept is easy to understand and are applicable to the modern market. Great book!

I purchased this book for a required college course. However, I have to say it was easy to understand, explains the topics clearly. I got a 4.0 in the class.
