Editorial Reviews

Review

"E is for Exotic proves that erotica can come in infinitely more exciting combinations than the obvious tropical beach cliché.....(it) spans the earth to titillate us with tales of sexual depravity that are all equally exotic and sexy as hell.....As E demonstrates, it's not just sun-drenched beaches or balmy summer locations that really inspire lustful encounters. You can be anywhere in the world to conjure up erotic passions worthy of putting pen to paper. Better still, read this lovely book and you can get hot and heavy in all corners of the earth from the comfort of your own bedroom." -- Forum UK

Exotic is something out there, far out there. Right, it’s not just physical but mental/emotional/spiritual as well. But mostly physical, as in not local or at the very least not in your own bedroom, or even your own house. So for this book, I was thinking mostly “foreign.”

Tyler’s intro gets at that, centering on how sex away from home—away from the usual—is usually better and more memorable, and is therefore exotic. I basically agree. Someplace new and unfamiliar tens to open your mind, put you off-guard, and expose you to things you hadn’t thought of and/or wouldn’t usually do. Yep, that’s what these stories offer.

The various locales listed in these thirteen stories are: Kyoto, Costa Rica, Libya, the American rural west, a bus between L.A. and Vegas, damp England, Mexico City, Ireland/Arizona/New England, Crete, Bangkok, Maine, a South American jungle and Paris. I found most of the stories enjoyable; none were bad.

You get some Japanese shibari and other forms bondage, girl-girl, boy-boy, multiple partners, some mature and married participants, young and old, etc. And again with the spanking. Always with the spanking. Plenty of it here, including the overly long concluding story “Un, Deux, Trois,” florid with highly detailed visual observations…in a very dim Paris couples club…that gets even more dim as the story progresses.

“Wet” was a good one about a husband and wife making some needed mommy-daddy time in the muddy woods after a night at the pub. The only problem was the driving rain…and the big full moon in the sky. Really? Even the Cleis editors didn’t pick up on this?

“Mad Dogs” was interesting, but a few paragraphs into it I checked my hunch and yes, this very male story was written by a woman.

Escapism: that is what this book was for me. 13 short stories about sex, sex, and a lot more sex. Within these thirteen short stories something for pretty much everyone. A little bondage, little women on women, men on men, and threesomes. Not every story was for me but I did enjoy about 85% of them. My favorite was `Heat'. Maaaaannnnnn, that story was just... well... hot!! I think a lot of what influences what story is my favorite is, "can that happen to me"? Or "I wish that would happen to me". :-)

We all have sexual fantasies and I love how author's can articulate that on paper. My second favorite story was `The Things that Go on at Siesta Time'. Again, "why can't stuff like that ever happen to me"? Ah well. Until it does I'll keep reading sexy little collections like this one.

Another of the Alphabet Erotica Collection by Alison Tyler, E is for Exotic has a strongly delineated theme--Sex in exotic locations, either mental or actual.

With stalwart authors that Tyler turns to again and again like Shanna Germain, Mathilde Madden and Teresa Noelle Roberts, the collection "is what it says on the tin." From Mexico City, to a sogged camping trip, to a hot three way encounter on the isle of Crete, the collection delivers on its promise of the exotic in its collection of erotic stories. With that as its framing theme, there are a variety of story types in the mix. The aforementioned threesome. Throw in a little bit of bondage. a little bit of dominance and submission, a little bit of very hot affairs, and mix well.

Serve hot.
