Superior tone and headroom, but poor reliability., October 20, 2009
This review is from: E2 Headrush Delay/Echo/Looping (Electronics)
I bought this after struggling with the Boss RC20XL; i could never get the loops timed perfectly. The switches on the Headrush E2 are more precise. I bought the E2 after seeing Mike Doughty use one live o i figured what the heck. I also found out this is the pedal K.T. Tunstall uses in her pedal board.
This unit has great headroom. A must if you use it in your amp's effects loop like I do. It's also switchable between loop and delay modes with the touch oif your foot, and so is the tap tempo of the delay.
Personally, i find the "multi head" delay feature to be totally useless. i mean, who has 2 to 4 amps to lug around for stereo effect?
Now for the downside. The "play" footswitch started acting flaky. That's when i found out how poor Akai's service is. All warranty work is outsourced to a 3rd party. The first rep i talked to argued whether or not i was actually having a problem and i had to virtually demand he write a service ticket out. What an a-hole. After receiving the unit back and i still had the issue, i called and got another warranty authorization from a nicer rep. Total turnaround was over a month.
After playing an outdoor show a few drops of rain landed on the exterior. Since then the delay will not adjust to the same speed it used to, i can't adjust it fast enough. Also the feedback control doesn't work right anymore. I am hesitant to send this back to Akai for yet ANOTHER repair.
The other peeve is the fact that this will not work without the wall wart adapter, which has a 5 foot cord. So i guess they are assuming I'll always use it no more than 5 feet away from a wall. Right? Ha.
In summation, great pedal, very versatile, just hope to God you don't need service. Take my advice.....GET THE EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN.

I just got mine BEFORE the estimated arrival time. Amazon great as usual. American Musical Supply... Excellent!!! How could you be that fast guys!!! Now for the product. I-m new in the looping business:
Excellent condition, looks nice and very well built. It feels solid.
You open the box and the first think you see is what it should be the "manual"... it-s just a little piece of papers, about 3 pages, in 3 languages. One pretty much has to literally guess your way to plug and play. No info about the effects, barely how to conect it to your amp, or guitar. Ok it's not a year 2020 pedal... but at least I would have liked some suggestions on sounds or at least how to gets it sound!!! Ok anyway I found my way. I started with the mos simple connection: Guitar---pedal---amp, that was it. At first no sound came out of the pedal but just reading the "manual" they tell you that the only knobs that work for the looper are de mix balance and the time knob...that's it, nothing else, so you're pretty much on your own. I tried something very simple, just hitting my guitar strings in order to get a rythm... it took me about 10 min. to get something decent out of it. Now the sound quality is very good. the phrases are cristal clear, but if you're new in this... beware!!! it's a new game, and you'll have to be very sharp on your tempos in order to punch in and out of a phrase, otherwise u will allways end up with some missing beats... eventually ANYONE with a basic rhythm notion will manage well. Once you get use to it. it's fun, and you'll spend hours playing with the E2. If you are intending to use it as one man gig tool... you'll be pretty boring for your audience, you need and extra multifx pedal. If you are like KT Tunstall then it's OK...
The analog echo effects are very very interesting to create some music
but then again, you'll need to find your way on your own.
It's a petty that no loops can be save by any digital mean, so once it's gone... it's gone
Now for the price: I find it extremely costly for what it delivers, rather spend another 100 bucks more and buy the Jamman from Digitech...
There you have it guys... too costly and not much in return. Definetively OVERPRICED !!!
