Product Description

Product Description

E3 has taken the best features from traditional spark plugs, such as cut-back ground electrodes and surface gaps, and combined them to create a new ground electrode design. Surface gap plugs present the flame kernel to the piston (or rotor) more directly, reducing the travel time from the spark to the combustion gases (although this difference is only measurable in hundred-thousands of a second, at 5000 RPM, they can add up). This avoids the "doughnut" shaped flame front created by standard spark plug electrodes. This is achieved in the E3 design through the open section at the top of the ground electrode. E3 spark plugs combine the benefits of additional sharp electrode edges with a cut-back electrode design used on some racing spark plugs. The increase of available edge-to-edge surface area encourages a more rapid spark discharge while also reducing quenching and shadowing. The two legs that support the special geometryof E3's powersports plug ground electrode aid in heat dissipation for longer electrode life. The center electrode on E3 spark plugs is created from nickel alloy with a copper center core for both improved conductivity as well as heat dissipation.

E3 Automotive spark plugs are a clear breakthrough in spark plug technology. Developed by researchers from leading engineering universities, E3's patented electrode design allows for a better spark, and resulting more complete flame kernal and flame front extending off the electrode, producing better overall localized pressure inside your vehicle's cylinders. This in turn leads to the fuel/air mixture injected into the cylinder being more cleanly consumed, lessening the level of greenhouse gases emitted, increasing energy efficiency and generating more horsepower.

Why You Need E3 Spark Plugs
As the designated catalyst for the ignition of fuel in gasoline powered cars, trucks, motorcycles and small engines, spark plugs are a small, but constant factor in the workings of the vast majority of motorists on the road. What these motorists may not know is that their choice of spark plug could play a significant role in reducing the level of greenhouse gases that their vehicles give off, as well as increasing overall fuel economy and potential power output. This is where E3 Spark Plug's DiamondFire technology comes in.

DiamondFire Technology
For the last 100 years, the only real advance in consumer spark plug technology has been to develop ways to make them cheaper. E3 Spark Plug's DiamondFire technology changes all of that through an improved electrode design that provides for more efficient burning of your vehicle's air/fuel vapor, leading to more pressure in the cylinder. These improvements are measurable, confirmed and based on the following design elements found in existing performance spark plugs.

First, the DiamondFire electrode directs the flame kernel to the piston more directly, reducing the travel time from the spark zone to the end gases via the open section at the top of the electrode. Given the short time available to get combustion started, the faster you can get the flame to the piston, the better. Second, the physical features of the electrode project further forward into the combustion chamber. This brings the spark zone closer to areas of probable "good" air/fuel mixture and also creates beneficial "micro-aerodynamics" within the spark zone. The initial combustion wave leaves the spark area at supersonic speeds above Mach 1, and the elevated edge provides a kind of chimney effect so the next round of air/fuel mixture gets into the spark zone more easily. Finally, the E3 electrode design features forced edge-to-edge spark discharge, which is the best way to get a spark to leave a surface. This improves upon the phenomena that drove race car drivers to "cut back" ordinary electrode spark plugs in order to improve the spark discharge. The spark itself occurs only when an avalanche of electrons migrates from the two electrodes (anode to cathode). Sharp edges are better at initiating electron migrations, and these accelerated electrons collide with matter inside the spark zone to release additional electrons. This design ensures that the whole population of electrons works to create a plasma channel through which the spark current flows more easily, resulting in an increase in both power output and fuel economy, while reducing emissions in gasoline engines and the build up of carbon deposits on engine surfaces.

I used these plugs in my 2002 VW Passat 1.8T AWM for a little more then a year and a half. I had used them for just a tad over 20,000 Miles.

When new they worked just as well as stock plugs. However I saw no improvement in MPG. They started to fail and misfire at just a few miles over 20,000 Miles of use. I have never had spark plugs wear out so fast. I expected more from this product. I am extremely disappointed in these plugs.

I've had Autolite Platinum's that lasted 40,000 Miles (twice as long) and they cost about half the price.

I will not buy E3 Spark Plugs in the future!

After about 10k miles on the spark plugs ('04 Tundra), had one of 8 fail (mechanic cost $86 for evaluation and replacement). Now talking with mechanic (should have before I installed) and auto-parts store, these are not as advertised.

With these plugs it all depends on the car. the reason E3 plugs work when they do is they accelerate the spark event. the open whole in the center is designed the concentrate the spark as it enters the combustion chamber. it reaches the fuel faster and you have faster and more complete fuel lightoff, resulting in better performance, increased fuel economy, and generally better emissions... depending on how you drive. plugs wont do anything for fuel economy if your flooring it all the time.

HOWEVER though, the end result has the same effect as advancing your ignition timing by about four or five degrees of crankshaft rotation. now what you have effectively done is put a custom tune on your engines ignition system, causing it to operate outside of parameters. now everyone with a Honda or a VW will want to stay away from these plugs because those cars tend to run high compression, extremely lean air fuel ratios, and or very advanced ignition timing, which is great for fuel economy and emissions, but misfires, detonation, and all around stress on the whole ignition system can occur from use of these plugs.

on the other side of the coin, i drive a 2004 Mitsubishi eclipse gts 6 cylinder. the instant i put the plugs in i noticed better performance overall. the reason being is threefold. Mitsubishi designed that 6 cylinder engine with a pig rich air fuel ratio and retarded ignition timing. not all of my fuel was being burned. so swap the plugs, more complete burn, and viola - gas mileage power and emissions gains.

and as for them wearing down fast? yes they do. they are copper plugs. 20,000 miles tops. copper is a better conductor of electricity than platinum or iridium coated plugs. these are "performance"/ "off road" plugs. lifespan wasnt a factor.

I just installed a set of these plugs on my 2004 Chevy Silverado 4WD 5.3L gas engine after watching Horsepower on the Powerblock channel. The dyno test on Horsepower showed a 5.5hp increase and slightly better gas savings over platinum tipped plugs that were also tested. So, I got mine for $5.99 from Summit Racing, as they had the size I needed. These come pre-gapped for your application. Not that 5.5hp is a whopping increase, but I have noticed the throttle response is a little better and when I put my foot into it, the truck has a little more giddyup. The results on gas mileage are still out. But, that's not why I bought them in the first place. If you can pick up 5.5hp just by changing plugs and at a fair price. Why not?

I have an older BMW 1100 gs they tend to have this wierd and irritating hesitation in the fuel injection system. The new bikes went to a dual spark plug configuration to eliminate the problem. I went to the e3 plugs . They work great! I could no long find the hesitation in the throttle. I couldnt believe it so I switched back to the all famous bosch platnium plugs. well it only took me a few minutes to switch back to the e-3 and they have been in there for three years now and still work great. I didnt notice a milege or horsepower increase but that wasnt the reason I tried them. I don't know if I will make to 100,000 miles with them but they have a good 20,000 miles in them and still gong strong.

We have 2 BMWs (650i and a 330ci) and 1 Audi (A6) in the household and I have installed E3s in all of them. First I would like to say that E3 should expand their marketing to include German built cars. My BMW dealership and other BMW specific repair facilities have never heard of them and warned me not to install anything but manufacturer recommended OEM replacement plugs as I would most likely generate a engine misfire or at the very least a check engine light that would cause me to have state inspection problems. None of these things have happened. In fact all three cars have never run better. They have more power and get better mileage. I would recommend E3s to anyone who asks.

I bought these after seeing them on TV. I'm not usually the kind of person to talk down a product, but in this case I feel obligated. I purchased these for my 2003 civic to replace my plugs. Within a month, the engine was stuttering and hesitating. I brought it for service and they said my ignition coils were failing and needed to be replaced. $450 for diagnostic, new coils and labor. At first I assumed it was just the coils' time to go... but my new set of coils didn't make it more than 2 miles from the shop before the engine started acting up again! Cylinders 1-3 were misfiring. Shop guys said the plugs blew out the brand new coils in 5 minutes flat! They replaced them and threw in some new plugs because they felt bad for me. Haven't had a problem with fresh coils and new plugs. I'm in the process of writing the company to see if I can get them to pay my bill. This is a clear case of crappy merchandise.
