This is the BEST container for packing a lunch. The internal trays are perfectly sized for reasonable portions of an entree and two sides and I don't have to worry about the contents mixing or shifting on my way to work. I can pack any mix of hot/cold food items - just lift out the inserts that hold the hot food items and microwave them separately. You can further subdivide the compartments with silicon cupcake liners, if you like a lot of variety in your meal. This is great if you like to pack bento-style lunches.

This has never leaked in my purse, which is a HUGE plus. It is so much more convenient than packing multiple tupperware or ziploc containers/bags. One star off because I've noticed that after a couple rounds in the microwave, the edges of the inserts are bowing and warping a bit and they no longer fit snugly in the outside container. But that won't stop me from using it or buying another one for backup.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent lunch container, but be a little careful when using it, September 12, 2010

this emsa clip and close container is perfect for lunches. you can have a good variety of items for lunch and the container is big enough to hold a filling meal for an adult. the locking mechanism is very secure and liquid sauces in your food won't leak in your backpack. these containers can be stored in your refrigerator and then microwaved. fantastic.

you should be a little careful with use though. two issues to be mindful of: 1) don't bend the plastic tabs back too much or they will crack, and 2) when you microwave the container, be sure to leave the lid *off* or it will be damaged! the container's plastic material is microwave safe, but if you leave the lid on, then the seal will allow the steam to build up and warp the lid. if you must cover your food while microwaving, then you should use something like microwave safe saran wrap instead.

in spite of these cons, i still bought 7 of these containers in order to prepare identical lunches for each day of the week in one cooking session! this has made cooking significantly less of a hassle. i don't know how i ever lived without this container.

A great product for taking lunch. The inner containers keep your items from mixing, just the right size for a thermal lunch box. I like lettuce in the big section, and keep my topping separate until I mix at lunch.

I have tried over half a dozen lunch boxes for my kids. There is always an issue - too small, too big, leaks, breaks... This box has survived almost a year of tribulations back and forth to school, and has remained largely unscathed - it has proven its robustness. Every 2-3 months I have to re-write my child' name with a permanent marker.

The box is largely shock-proof and leak proof. it is just large enough for a bunch of veggies in one small insert, some fruits (grapes, berries....) in the other. I don't use the third insert but simply put sandwiches on the other half. There is also enough room for a drinking yoghurt on its side in the same location. However, the box can not take a Gogurt if you use the two small inserts plus one or two sandwiches- that it the only limitation I see:-)

Altogether it is a good enough purchase that I am purchasing a second one for my other boy.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for kids lunches, January 13, 2011

We use these exclusively for school lunches. The lids are easy for all ages to open and close. The inserts are handy to seperate the foods but will not keep wet or crumbly food from traveling from one tray to another. These are our favorite storage container by far of all the containers we have tried.

4.0 out of 5 stars Functional. Fits into a lunch bag. Easy to clean, January 3, 2011

I was looking for a bento box for my kids lunch. I wanted to be able to put in couple different items and not need to use plastic baggies every time. this box is not big and i wish it was a bit deeper, but dimensions were posted so i knew what i was getting. It fits a 1/2 sandwich and i put apples, small carrots or grapes into one of the other sections and occasionally slices of chicken or other meat. I don't think it can handle very wet foods together as it does not seal the sections from each other. but for more or less dry foods it separates nicely. I am done with plastic bags at least. Also, it was a little hard for my son to open it up, so i always leave one flap open, so he only needs to lift one to open the box, it holds the contents locked in well even with one flap up.
it is easy to wash as well.

This container is great for packing a bento style lunch. I initially bought it for my kids but the capacity is a little larger than they need so I think I'll keep it for myself. I like that I can pack a variety of foods and that nothing shifts around inside the container.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for daycare meals...., June 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Emsa E503392 Clip and Close Rectangular Food-Storage Container with Lid and 3 Removable Inserts (Kitchen)
My 13 month old daughter eats a packed breakfast and lunch at her daycare. I purchased two of these containers - one for each meal. The best feature is that the individual compartments come out, so if just one or two items need heated in the microwave, it is easy for the daycare staff to do that. The ladies at the daycare have complimented these containers a couple of times, and told me that it makes their job easier at mealtimes. It makes life a little easier for me as well, since I think it is easier to pack a meal in this container rather than using multiple small containers. I sometimes use a silicone muffin cup to further compartmentalize it.

Based on the features and convenience alone, this is definitely a 5 star product. However, I am reducing the rating to 4 stars because the product is not as sturdy as it could be. I've only had these for a month, and the inner compartments have already warped a little bit, even though I either put them on the top rack of the dishwasher or hand wash them. Perhaps the warping is caused by the microwave. So far, the warping has not affected the usability of the product though. Even with this issue, I like them well enough that I am purchasing two additional ones, so I have a set for spare when the other set is dirty.

The individual compartments do not come quite to the top of the container, which means you should not pack liquid items like soup in these. I do pack things like yogurt and applesauce though, by using a small piece of Glad Press & Seal wrap on that particular compartment.

Sturdy, clean-lines and practical. Just don't shake it. The compartments are great and for the most part things don't mix. However, I dropped my purse a couple of times and some couscous or rice or chips snuck from one compartment to another. Like I said, no shaking. However, no leaking!
