From the Manufacturer

EA-N66 Dual-Band Wireless-N450 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
EA-N66 Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Wired to Wireless without Compromise

The ASUS EA-N66 enables an Ethernet-ready device to wirelessly connect to a router with up to an incredible 450 Mbps of data throughput—one of the highest speeds for a Wi-Fi signal. With its patented 3-point orthogonal design, get a more robust and larger wireless signal range.

The Future is Wireless

Do away with unsightly wired Ethernet cables that could limit where you place your device and go wireless with the freedom to place your smart TV, desktop PC, or other Ethernet-enabled device where you want with the high performance and stability you desire.

Specialized Antenna Design

The patented 3-point orthogonal design is unique and modern in appearance but also delivers a substantial increase in wireless connectivity enabling faster data throughput and an expanded signal range. While most routers have a flat linear line for optimal signal, the EA-N66 antenna shape delivers more of an arc-shaped area of signal coverage giving you an increased optimal range of connectivity for devices throughout your network.

Ultra-High-Speed Dual-Band Performance

Get data throughput up to an incredible 450 Mbps with the EA-N66—one of the highest wireless speeds available today. What's more, it's IPv6 ready meaning you're ready for future-proofed Web surfing as soon as the networking standard is changed.

3 Selectable Modes

The EA-N66 is exceptionally versatile with 3 different modes you can select from. Ethernet Adapter mode connects your Ethernet-enabled device to a wireless network. Access Point mode establishes a new wireless network. Repeater mode extends an existing wireless network.

Expand Your Coverage

Far surpassing the range of conventional wireless adapters, the EA-N66 gives you a wireless signal range up to 10,000 sq ft1. Especially useful to enhance signal range of existing routers when placed in repeater mode, the EA-N66 increases your signal reach throughout multi-level houses or surrounding areas outside.

User-Friendly Interface

Set up the EA-N66, switch between modes, and customize settings effortlessly through the user-friendly interface. The network map allows you to visually see all the connected devices on your network and customize access as well as set bandwidth priority. Accessible also through EZ UI is the EZ QoS (Quality of Service) that lets you optimize your network for your most commonly performed tasks like online gaming, video streaming, and more.

Warranty

The EA-N66 comes with a standard 2 year North American warranty.

I give this 4 stars instead of 5 because the documentation is horrible and misleading.

I purchased this product to use as an Access Point and THEN read the reviews on this site. Over the first 3 days I experienced many of the same problems that others have reported here. Mainly, not being able to hold a consistent wireless connection and not being able to log-in to the GUI. Mine would drop my connection every few hours or so. Over the first 3 days of owning the EA-N66 it dropped my connection at least a couple of dozen times. Instead of ripping my hair out (which I thought of doing many times) I stuck with it. And the reason I stuck with it was that when it worked, it was great! Great speed and great range!

So I started reading all the reviews here and anywhere else I could find them. There was some nice information in those reviews and I'm glad to say that I have now have seemed to fix all of the problems I was experiencing. I have had a solid connection for the last 6 days. Not that this is a long time, but considering that it couldn't stay stable for more than a couple of hours, this is great and makes me think that the problem is solved. Everything is working great and I've had zero issues during this time.

So my goal here is to tell you what I did to resolve the issues that had so many people, including myself, frustrated to the point of throwing this thing out the window and ripping ASUS a new one. Hopefully this information will save you the 3 days of time it took me to figure this out.

I am using this in Access Point (AP) mode. I cannot vouch for its effectiveness in any other mode. I'm not going to bore you with a list of features as they are printed in other reviews and on the ASUS Website.

I set this up in extender mode and found that it was only extending the 2.4 GHz band, not the 5GHz band. I sent an email to ASUS, who informed me it will do one or the other, but NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. I've had units much cheaper than this that could do both. If you look at the description they have on their website, they make it sound like it will do both simultaneously.

(Taken from the ASUS web site)-------------------------------------------------------------------

"The dual-band operating mode can satisfy both normal and power user: with 2.4GHz, web surfing or e-mail delivery will be brisk, and when HD streaming or blu-ray movie are needed, the 5GHz band provides a blazingly fast lag-free home entertainment."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What does "dual-band operating mode" mean if it is not simultaneous?"
It doesn't say "The dual-band operating mode can satisfy EITHER normal OR power user......." it says "AND"
It also forgot to say that "e-mail delivery will be brisk, and when HD streaming or blu-ray movie are needed, AFTER YOU LOG INTO IT TO CHANGE THE SSID, the 5GHz band ...."

Make sure you know what you're getting before you buy this.

This is the best ethernet adapter on the market. Had a Linksys N dual band adapter trying to bring a home theater to a far away router. It worked but never could maintain a strong signal. Hooked this up even further away from the router and it has nothing but strong, consistent signal. Setup was a breeze to the matching Asus N900 Dark Knight router. If your looking for a much stronger, and frankly, better looking media adapter. Look no further.

I needed to get a wireless signal to a part of the house where my existing router's wireless signal did not reach. However, I had a cat5 cable going from the router to the remote part of the house. IOW, I needed a wireless Access Point (AP). There were several options but the EA-N66R fit the bill for me: it plugs into my cat5 and provides fast, solid wireless connectivity to that part of the house.

Setup: I followed the little manual to get going.
1. Plugged my laptop directly into it.
2. Started a browser and pointed it to [...] like it told me.
3. The admin console of the EA-N66R came up, I logged in and then configured it.
3a. I could have also used it instead as a wireless repeater or an wireless ethernet adapter. But I needed the AP so that is the button I clicked.
3b. I checked to see that it was broadcasting a SSID that my phone could see. I walked around the house to see how strong the signal was. Strong!

4. Then I unplugged it from my laptop and plugged it into the network drop.
5. Then, from a PC, I logged into my router (NetGear FVG318) and found the address it assigned to the EA-N66R.
6. Using that address, I logged into the EA-N66R once again and tweaked the AP passwords and other settings.
7. Then I looked for a wireless signal from my ThinkPad, iPad and WinPhone. Everything connected just fine, the family cheered. :)

The GUI is pretty good and has a beginner's section or you can get pretty geeky if you want.
I like the fact that you can change the signal strength of the radio.

It is a cool looking little device with silvery curves and glowing blue lighting inside.
I would like to mount it on the ceiling if I could because it looks so futuristic.
