Outstanding Monitor for Photo Editing,
This review is from: EA241WM-BK 24-Inch Wide LCD with DVI Speaker (Black) (Electronics)
Order a pair of these for home office, and I am really pleased. The build quality is top notch, no dead pixels, and all the accessories were included. NEC calls these "enterprise displays" because the housing is very simple matte black, with only a single blue LED to indicate power. The stands are perhaps the best feature as they allow for several inches of height adjustment, angle of display, and rotating the whole thing 90 degrees to portrait mode.
If you are into glossy displays this is not for you. If you want a no fuss work horse monitor that produces very accurate colors that does not require a second mortgage, this is the monitor for you. I love it so much I might get a third.

I got this as a gift for my wife and like it very much. The monitor was very well packaged and came with all cables. (DVI, SVGA, regular audio, digital audio & power cord). I had the monitor unpacked and on the desk in two minutes. The cord hider on the back of the monitor worked quite well to make sure all of the cables were hidden.
I did find the monitor very bright as did my wife. She needed the brightness turned down immediately. The picture was awesome for a home computer and non-photo editing use. Very convenient to have the speakers in the monitor. True, we don't listen to audio at the computer, so I can not vouch for the sound quality. One huge plus with this monitor is that it has everything. It has height adjust, tilt built in so no more worrying about getting ergonomically situated. We're very happy with this.

Video editing with a laptop,

I needed a monitor to stop me from going blind running Final Cut Pro at home. I usually do broadcast quality work out of a post facility on either Avid or Final Cut. I didn't want to invest too much for the webisode work I sometimes do from home. It's great to see the Canon 5D and 7D footage at full resolution and gives me lots of real estate for my timeline. I use my laptop for the browser window. With this and eSata G-tech drives, I'm set up fine for web video editing and for offline broadcast work. And it's a faster system than an iMac.

I ordered this believing NEC could make a decent monitor for this price ... I wasn't looking for bells and whistles ... just solid standard performance. What I got was a piece of junk ... the illumination is terrible ... bright at the bottom, dark at the top ... at least 1/2 f/stop but maybe more like an entire one. This makes doing any kind of accurate Photoshop work impossible ... plus the viewing angle is critical ... you can't move your head or change the tilt of the screen without major changes in the image. In case you're wondering ... I calibrated the monitor with Colorvision Spyder II and I have over 40 years of professional photo lab experience ... guess I should have known better. I wish there was a standard for screen illumination quality ... not just the color gamut but how even the screen is. I'll never buy another monitor without seeing it first.
