but in a short time the fan cracked, causing squeeking sound and then the fan stopped, caused the card to overheat and burn out taking my power source with it.

The 4670 is a great budget video card for small desktops. It does not require a big power supply or any extra cooling making it perfect for desktop computers that are not intended to be gaming powerhouses. I put this in a Dell Inspiron 530 and it works perfectly. With 2GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo processor I was even able to run Crysis at 1280x1024 with high settings (no AA)!Pros: -Inexpensive -Does not require external power (it draws its power from the PCIe bus) -Quiet -Very fast for the money -Medium length (it easily fit in the 530's case) -VGA, DVI, and HDMI connectors Cons: -Don't expect killer performance for this price.

I bought this card for our new XP machine, a dual core with 3GB RAM, so that my son could play the Total War series of computer games. He was *deeply* concerned that the card wouldn't be good enough, but it works great, he can see all the graphics at the highest quality settings, and he's happy (for now). It was a good purchase, and the seller did a good job in providing the product at the right price and with minimal delays.

I bought this product because of reviews stating that it is the most powerful and lowest priced card available that does not need separate power from the PCI express connector. No question -- it is FAR more powerful than the nVidia 7600GS that preceded it. But the ASUS 4670 is a bit noisy. It runs it's fan at 100% full speed and the GPU temperature rarely exceeds 38 degrees C. So now I'm looking for updates to the card's software that will let me run down the fan speed.

Works Well,

I got this card to punch up the graphics on my Gateway LX6200-01. And it has done it quite well. My gaming settings are maxed and it runs great. Simple install. You can hear the fan, not a big deal for me. Also I had to remove the TV tuner card to fit the video card. Again this no problem for me as I don't use the tuner card. This is an issue with my model computer and not an issue with card itself. Very pleased.

I was looking for a budget card to drive the ASUS VH242H Monitor (ASUS VH242H 23.6-Inch Wide 16:9 5 ms Response Time 20000:1 Smart Contrast Ratio LCD Monitor) I was buying for work (to replace a puny 17 inch Dell). Initially, I thought about going with a Radeon HD4850, but that needed a six pin external power connector that the Dell Optiplex 755 I am working with just does not have. The Dell power supply was also woeful at about 350-380 watts, and did not have 4-pin molex connectors (only SATA power connectors). So that ruled out any video card needing additional power. So after searching around for a bit I decided on the Radeon HD4670 line (I am an AMD/ATI loyalist...not fanboy...loyalist, so no Nvidia here), and this one was the cheapest of the lot (I didn't need 1GB frame buffers). Most everything about this card is budget. From the minimalist packaging to the basic manual and cds. The card has a decent heatsink however, and for what its worth (i.e., for those who need it), direct HDMI output. Install was painless and straightforward. Like other reviewers I used the Catalyst drivers from AMD and not the stuff included with the CD that are, more often than not, old drivers. I did not have a problem with audio however. If you do use the ATI Rear Output audio, you won't hear anything unless you've got your audio hooked up through the HDMI port (which I was able to verify with the ASUS VH242H monitor). If you're not using HDMI for audio, then switch back to your other audio device. In terms of performance, this is not a performance card. It is a budget card...an entry level budget card at that. That said, I ran some Far Cry 2 becnhmarks (the only ones I have at work with me now) and got the following results at 1920x1080 with AA disabled (GPU clocked at 750MHz and Memory at 1004MHz using Catalyst Auto Tune): 57fps average at low settings, 42fps at medium, and 33fps at high. I didn't bother with very high, or ultra high. So, I guess its good for some distraction after a hard day before you take off to go to your power rig at home, but definitely not as a gaming machine card at any level. So, I recommend it as a good budget card for the office. The person buying this card wants a bit more than the onboard video crap that comes with many office rigs, but are limited by the power supply or space, and are not especially interested in more that occasional gaming and even then can live with less than stellar graphics. My Office Rig: Dell Optiplex 755 with Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 at 2.33GHz, and 2GB RAM; Asus EAH4670/DI/512M/A (this review), Asus VH242H 23.6inch LCD, Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD Arm.
