I then tried two EVGA Passive (fanless) 210's. Both failed within 45 minutes.
I've been running HD video through this 5450 for over 24 hours straight now with no problems at all. I think I've finally got a winner. And if I don't, I'll update it here.
Everything in the system was tested working.
However, after using this card for a few hours it light brightly with a spark and burnt itself out.
I was dissapointed but i still had faith that ASUS would RMA it. However i was sorely mistaken. ASUS refused to accept the card since they claim it could not be the problem in the system.
I was shocked since one would believe that something bursting in flames would be a sure sign that it was deffective.
Asus claimed that the PSU must have been the problem and still refuse to take it back.
N.B. I have confirmed that everything else in the system works and upon purchasing a Gigabyte video card the system is working fine.
SHAME ON ASUS!
The problem is with the application come with the CD, it forces you to load it as a startup item and it takes resources to load this every time you boot your windows, it slows down your system.
The other thing I really don't like is it somehow disables my analog audio, if you have sound play through your speaker, it will not work, and it really turns your PC into a silent machine ( you can Google web for this, you will find I am not the only one complaints about this).
All in all, this is a "my way or the highway" mentality from a software implementation point of view, users do not have their say, big brother will figure out all for you, whether this is a good or bad approach, it is really debatable.
Giving the card works, but my PC is silenced, I will give it a three stars.

I finally make my audio working, basically, you need to re-install your audio codec, I suspected this as I started the system with no sound, but the trick here is the video card install the AMD catalyst application and HDMI driver for you, you need to go to the controll panel to disable this first. After the second install of the driver from Realtek (manufacturer of the codec chip), the sound appears to be working.
For his use this card has more than enough power. He uses his computer for email, web surfing, and working with documents in word or running applications like turbo tax. His display is a 37in flat screen tv so the hdmi output is the key connection for him. The large screen helps make his computer use more pleasant with some challenges he is facing with his vision.
I have gotten an older version of this card a few years ago for a client running a graphics system driving an engraver. The old card failed with exploded capacitors and this was a replacement for this old ATI Radeon.which didn't require changing drivers and was compatible with their engraver software/hardware. It's running perfectly today.
The older version and current version appear very well made: typical for ASUS. Fit and alignment were perfect which isn't always the case with low price cards.
Hope this helps someone to get a quiet and capable general purpose video card. It's been very good to my family and client so I'm giving it 5 stars.
There were issues with this card from day 1. Sounds problems, resolution automatically resetting, system crashing and not recognizing the card at all. When it crashed, after many other attempts to fix the issue, my only choice was to run a System Restore to fix the problem. I made sure to use latest drivers from ATI, tried a different HDMI cable and port, etc. but nothing worked. After exhausting my own technical abilities I attempted to chat with Asus support, I waited for over 30 minutes without a tech joining the chat, tried again a few days later and same thing after 15 minutes. I finally sent a tech support request via email but have not heard back from them, that's been 4 days now. I finally decided my best bet was to get another card and see if that was the issue, I purchased the Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 210 1 GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card GV-N210D3-1GI and so far it's running smoothly with no issues at all.
I wouldn't recommend this card to anyone, I had nothing but problems from it and received no support from Asus.
