This review is from: EARTH Is the MOTHER of All Drama Queens (Paperback)
If the concept of karma is unknown to you, the idea that everything in the world is fair might make you balk. But put into the wider context of reincarnation, any action may well be the natural reaction to something you did in a previous life. So argues the author.

This is a wonderful, witty, warm-hearted memoir of Patricia Arnold's life, a lady who seems to move house on a regular basis: hey, we all have our hobbies. ;-) It is also an introduction to the concept of karma and forgiving ourselves and others for our trespasses - sound familiar?

Wondering where all the drama in her life has come from made her start asking deeper questions, and looking to the spiritual side of things. I find in this book a more open look at Christianity than I'm used to seeing, and a very important distinction: being christ-like is not the same as being Christian. I would have bought it for this insight alone.

I was already aware of many of the concepts in the book, but some were new to me, and the best part of it is that they are presented as a tale with humor and humanity, not in dry text-book fashion. The author states up-front that she's not expecting to convert you to anything; she's just relating her own experiences in case you can use them. I've already used some of the insights in my own life and found them helpful. You could read this as a feel-good book or as a learn-something book, or both. Or something else. I highly recommend it.

What made me buy this book? It was the introduction, where the author, a journalist at that time, refused an assignment to interview the newly bereaved parents of a little girl. I've always been furious with journalists who poke a microphone at family members who've received the worst possible news, and ask them how they feel. It was such a breath of fresh air to find someone who refused to do it. I'm glad I bought the book, because the rest of it has that same sense of respect and warmth.
