This is my favorite reference book!,

This review is from: Earthway: A Native American Visionary's Path to Total Mind, Body, and Spirit Health (Religion and Spirituality) (Paperback)
This is a great book to start out with if you're just getting into natural living or starting along the Red Road and want to learn more on how to do it or if you know a little about it and want to learn still more. Mary's smooth narraitive on No-Eye's lessons keeps you interested throughout the entire book. From front to back it's inclusive in knowledge, technique and wisdom. I've indexed my copy of this book with tabs on much used pages and carry it with me everywhere for quick reference. I use the dream interpretation section when I wake up. It goes grocery shopping with me. When friends and family call on me with emotional or physical problems, it's always there as reference to speed their healing... Folks, I could go on and on about this book, but I think you get the idea. Just get the book!

Inspirational, informative, thorough!,

This review is from: Earthway: A Native American Visionary's Path to Total Mind, Body, and Spirit Health (Religion and Spirituality) (Paperback)
I had purchased this book a few years back in hopes of finding an "easy fix" for my chronic psorasis. I guess, at the time, I was not ready for extensive information easily "reminded" and provided to me on many more subjects. About three months ago I re-discovered the book amongst others in my attic. Once I begun reading from the beginning I could not put it down! Summer Rain's accounts of the visionary No Eyes were so touching and real. Has there been a time in your life when you were sitting quitely in the woods, amongst the stars and feel the wind calling? Did you feel safe, as if your finally "home"? If you've ever wondered why you love fresh veggies from your own garden or thoroughly enjoy long serene walks of solitude in the winderness then THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU! While speeding our man made information super highway of technology, we have taken for granted the enormous world that still exists. We've grown so accustom to our electronic accomidations that we forget to embrace the beauty of natural simplicty. The "real time" connections we make should not be exclusively fiber optic but more importantly with our senses and each other, right? In other words, take time to smell the roses and while your there, read this book. You won't be disappointed!

Wonderful in-depth reference of Native American pathways!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Earthway: A Native American Visionary's Path to Total Mind, Body, and Spirit Health (Religion and Spirituality) (Paperback)
This is a comprehensive study of the Native American visionary path. Folklore and modern medicine are brought together in Mary Summer Rain's well-designed charts and explanations. She unveils the meaning of dreams in her extensive section on dream interpretation. Her account of "The Crystal Stream - The Meditation Way" will touch your soul. As the last apprentice to the Chippewa visionary, No-Eyes, Mary Summer Rain has brought together in one volume the equivalent of a complete set of reference books on Native American practices of total mind, body, and spiritual health.

This review is from: Earthway: A Native American Visionary's Path to Total Mind, Body, and Spirit Health (Religion and Spirituality) (Paperback)
Having read several of her books based on No-Eyes, I had to read this one... I was slightly disappointed as it missed the familiarity that was felt in the No-Eyes books. However, for those who are looking for charts on dream interpretation, or some basic herbals, this is a good reference book. Based on its reference value, I find it great. However, if you are looking for the familiarity she shares in her other books, you too will be disappointed.

Important information for all,

This review is from: Earthway: A Native American Visionary's Path to Total Mind, Body, and Spirit Health (Religion and Spirituality) (Paperback)
"Earthway" is full of remarkable and necessary information about the need for humanity to remember their connection to Gaia and live in harmony with their environment. The information provided is vast and full of wisdom and I enjoyed very much reading the book.
There were, however, some ... inconsistencies? ... with some of the presentations of information. The diet advocated by No-Eyes, Mary Summer Rain's teacher, includes the eating of meat only from fish and fowl - no eating of anything with four legs. This is presented in such a way as to leave me, frankly, dumbfounded. Is the author trying to say that the native peoples didn't eat bison, deer, pronghorn, bear, etc.? Because that is just ridiculous. She also states that it is important to eat gelatin - which is made from hooves. So, don't eat the meat, but slaughter the animals for their hooves? That isn't the Native way, which was to use every bit of the creature they had killed and by doing so properly express their gratitude for the gift of that animal's life in order to sustain their own. Also, there is a long listing of dream interpretations - many of them make a great deal of sense, but there are also instances in which the perceptions of the dreamer aren't taken into account. Different people have different perceptions of the meaning of colours, for instance; or the meaning of snakes, insects, rodents ... personally, I don't see snakes as examples of "underhanded dealing," but of rebirth, renewal, rejuvenation. I don't see rats are harbingers of illness, but as examples of social connections and camaraderie. The author also states that there are many paths to God, but then makes the impression that the way she is recommending is the only one ... admittedly, that way is to look within, but still ... However, these are minor matters, overall, compared to the knowledge imparted in this book - I recommend it, but also recommend (based upon my confusion over certain matters) that it would be better to read the other books she has written first, which apparently give a great deal of background information needed in order to fully understand what is written here.

Completely Blew My Mind.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Earthway (Hardcover)
The section on Dreams at the end of the book was so accurate when compaired to my own dreams that it was almost too much to handle. I really believe in the indian interpretation of what the mind see's in it's dream state now. It was very accurate and has actually helped me to change some of my behavior in life as I respond to the guiding signs of the mind. Thank You Very Much Mary Summer Rain.

Another great enlightening book from Mary Summer Rain. I've read several of her great eye-mind opening books. However I am now re-reading from the beginning book, any one of them will leave you wanting to find all her books. The " No Eyes"series is truly one of a kind, so unlike the run of the mill "New Age" you may have read.
