Over the last few years, I've come to the conclusion that I need to focus more on being healthy than reaching that certain weight. In order to be a healthy weight, I need to eat healthier and get more exercise. I have also come to the conclusion that, for me, cutting out the foods that I love most is not going to get me to where I want to be.
I just finished this book yesterday and it reaffirms what I believe to be healthiest track for me. I don't think this is a "diet" book in the same sense that you would read about the Adkin's Diet or the South Beach Diet. My impression is that this is a book to help you eat and be healthier for the rest of your life, not just to reach a goal weight. There are no diet plans to follow, no exercise regiments and no recipes - just quite a bit of basic information and suggestions for how to live a healthier life by way of eating right. The author uses information from things like the Food Pyramid and other readily-available sources to highlight that people need to eat a sensible amount of all food groups and allow themselves to indulge every once in a while on things that may not be as healthy but that they enjoy. The author emphasizes portion control and shows how to read food labels so that people can better understand what they are eating. I've reverted back to his previous book that gives me planned meals and exercise plans.
Now I liked this book as I think it's got a wealth of information in it, but I did miss that there was not actual diet regiment plan to follow. Those seem to work best for me so I was a little disappointed that this book left it all over to me to figure out.
