Ecco is a brand to reckon with
on June 29, 2011
I'm new to this particular brand and I have to admit that I wonder how long I have been living under a rock with regards to Ecco shoes. I did not purchase these shoes from Amazon, but I felt that after my experience with my pair of Fusion Mocs that they were worth writing a review for.
For those already familiar with the Ecco brand, you can just go ahead and skip this paragraph, but feel free to continue reading anyways. Ecco is a brand that I researched and discovered that it has come about from a man in Denmark. According to the story, one day he just got fed up with painful feet from wearing shoes that your "feet had to conform too" and felt that shoes should be conforming to your feet; thus, the brand was born on the premise that comfort takes priority over fashion, but that isn't to say that Ecco shoes are ugly or anything. In other words, these shoes are MADE to be comfortable and that my friend is something the brand adheres too.
As I had mentioned earlier, I bought this shoes elsewhere - an actual shoe store to be exact - and I am glad that I did because having a shoe professional fit you with a shoe of this type I feel is pretty important. I normally wear 10.5 or 11, but in my case the associate had me go one size down. After putting the pair on, he told me that I should be feeling some compression and that is to be expected and it should be this way. He also pointed out that when I tried my regular size that "bumps" from the gaps in the shoe were forming because they were too big. Anyways at the size I had gotten my feet will truly break them in and the shoe will conform to my feet. This can take a week or two to happen, but it can happen in a few days too.
I have to say that each passing day the shoes become more and more comfortable. It is almost as if they are "Aging" like fine wine does. This was quite surprising for me. I often forget entirely that I am wearing shoes as well and that they absorb shock extremely well. These are quite casual so they'll go with anything like khakis or denim, for example.
I would recommend that you get some cedar shoe trees for these if you haven't got any yet. They will help absorb the moisture that the leather collects from your feet throughout the day and extend the life of your shoes as well as preventing/slowing any creases from showing in the leather.
Lastly, I see a quite a few reviews (on ecco shoes in general) mention that eccos last a long time and they are replacing theirs. I don't understand why people are doing this. It is true that I find many saying they have pairs that last 5+ years and then proceed to say they are getting a pair to replace their first. Ecco has a contract with a company called NuShoe that will, for a fraction of a new pair's cost, resole your shoes and other services to bring your shoe "back to life" - think refurbishing. This way you get to keep the comfort system that you created with the shoes over all those years. Something to keep in mind with the Ecco brand down the road should you get any of their shoes.
I hope this review has helped. I will update this review should any changes occur and perhaps down the road just for updates. I know some may think "Oh the shoes I got are comfortable". Trust me if you have been buying shoes from department stores or walmart all your life, you haven't truly experienced comfortable shoes yet. These are worth the price you are paying. Not only that these shoes will last much longer than those pairs you have to replace every 1-2 years, so in the long run you'll be saving money.
