Most Comfortable Sandal I've Ever Owned, July 9, 2009
This review is from: ECCO Men's Casual Fisherman Sandal (Apparel)
Growing up in California, I've owned many sandals in my lifetime, but these are hands down the most comfortable. I can walk around all day, 35 pounds overweight, and my feet don't seem aware that they've been pounding the ground all day. They absorb not just the feel of the impact with the ground, but also the sound, these are very quiet to walk in.
PROS
Quality materials, ultra comfortable, and looks great if you like this style of sandal(my wife thinks they're ugly, calling them my "gladiator sandals" which makes me like them even more).
The elevated heel is a pro for anyone looking to add height in casual environments.
The shoe is great for flat ground and regular walking.
CONS
Elevated heel makes this a poor choice for walking on uneven terrain, running in, or playing any type of sport that involves moving faster than a medium walk, or fast changes of direction. The higher center of gravity increases the chance of landing on the side of your foot rather than the sole. At least it does for me.
The elevated heel will also be a con for anyone who doesn't want to add any height.
OVERALL
Ecco sells these as a "casual shoe", rather than as one of their outdoor performance sandals, and that seems a very good classification. Pay attention to that classification.
If you're looking for an ultra comfortable casual sandal that looks good, this is a great choice. But if you're looking for a sandal to be more active in, like do some running, or casual sports, hiking, etc... I would advise you to skip this one due to the elevated heel. Ecco has other, more appropriate offerings along those lines if you need that.
These are the fourth pair of Ecco's I've ever owned(third style) and they have maintained my very high opinion of Ecco shoes. I honestly won't buy any other brand now. My feet are ALWAYS comfortable in Eccos and they always seem to fit right. Worth the extra money to me. You can't really put a price on not having foot and back pain.
