These are probably the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. Because of this fact, I continue to buy them.
However, over the years, I have had trouble with the soles (by the way, company-suggested replacement soles offer almost no wear at all). My most recent purchase of a new pair of black/forest has had the toe stitching pull loose. Comfortable shoes; not so durable.

Rubber Soles & Heels Fall Apart,
By
This review is from: ECCO Men's Cross Oxford (Apparel)
An amazing thing happened to me. Although the dress shoes are supermax comfortable, I didn't wear them for a year or so. When I put them on this week I had them on for about an hour when chunks of rubber started falling off of the heel. Unfortunately, I was enroute to teaching a seminar out of state and I couldn't change them. For two days the rubber kept peeling off and falling off - rather embarrassing when standing in front of a group and hunks of your shoes stay behind when you move around.
Frankly, I think it's funny because I'm 65 and not really worried about what people think of my shoes. But I sure won't buy Ecco again -- even though the shoes were probably the most comfortable dress shoes I ever have worn! Tom Nelson, Welches, Oregon, USA.

Mostly Good..,

This review is from: ECCO Men's Cross Oxford (Apparel)
I have these shoes in all three colors (black, brown, beige), and have worn almost nothing else for the last five years. The comfort is unmatched by any shoes I know of, and I love the design also. The beige variety are no longer made, the reason for that may be the soles. The black rubber used on the black and brown Cross isn't used on the beige uppers, instead the soles are a matching beige rubber which is apparently inferior and much less durable. The pair I own ripped on the bottom in a matter of weeks - very disappointing. So in sum, these are great shoes as long as you stick to the brown and black versions.

This is by far the best shoe I ever wore. I'm on my third pair with each of the first lasting no less then three years of constant ware. I will continue to buy this model. It is exceptionally well made and is pretty water resistant. PS all my footwear is by ECCO.

Echo shoes best for your arch,

I have worn Eccos (black Men's Cross Oxford)for 10 years, esp after having plantar faciitis from wearing deck shoes. Fashionable, the rage, but hell on the arch. I buy a new pair every 2-3 years and cylce the old ones into "outside work" shoes. I have never had an issue with them and wear nothing else for work and going out. They are easy to take care of, brush them and they look as good as new. There is also a "sealer" available that helps prolong that new, brushed look. If you do not brush once in a while, they will get that flat shiny look. As to the one comment that color was off, this may be a factor of the way the nap on the shoe lies, a brushing should help this. I would not try to resole these shoes, they are not classic flat shoe leather bottoms with tops sewn on ala standard florsheim shoe. All in all, I know I will be very sad if or when these shoes are off the market. They are incredibly comfortable, light and good looking. I also suggest that you wear your shoes LOOSLEY, do not crank down on the laces. I know this will take a bit to get used to, but it will save your feet and arch. Finally, suggest highly wool socks. They are cushy and they wick moisture. Smart Wool, Wig-Wams work well. Off to buy my eccos......

I work 11 hour shifts in the ER which involves a lot of walking. These shoes are extremely comfortable and durable. After 1 1/2 years and about 250 shifts in one pair of shoes, it is time to replace my current pair.

When I needed shoes for work way back when, the salesman recommended these. They were the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever worn. That paired died about 3 well worn years later. Now that I need casual shoes for my current job, I bought them again.
They break in quickly, look great without being dressy, and fit my wide (EEE) foot perfectly without pinching or binding. They're worth every penny.

These are the best I have found for both comfort and enough style so you can wear them at work. I just wish they had a larger range of sizes.

Ecco soles fall apart,
This review is from: ECCO Men's Cross Oxford (Apparel)
Before considering Ecco shoes, just Google "Ecco soles fall apart"
and learn of the many many customers who purchased Ecco shoes, used them occasionally, and experienced sudden disintegration of the soles. Of course, it doesn't happen to every purchaser, but if it does, don't expect that Ecco will help you. |
