I own other Ecco shoes including loafers and golf shoes, so I expected these to be the same comfort and quality. I bought the shoes prior to a trip to Paris anticipating they would be excellent for walking. Unfortunately they are not very comfortable…these shoes however are stiff and gave me blisters the first few times I wore them (tried several different socks of varying thickness). In general, it appears to me the materials and finish are not consistent with other Ecco products. Particularly the footbed material and material at the heel, which is very rough. Very disappointed in these, given my past experience with Ecco and the price!

Ecco, in my experience, has great variation across each model of shoe. Some are solid winners, others are in 'what where they thinking' territory. The Vermont is somewhere in the middle. I had tried these on, hastily, at a shoe store while on holiday, and quite liked them, but had already gotten my everyday shoes for the year. Recently it was time to get a new pair of 'daily drivers,' so I ordered the Vermont here on Amazon. I went with the Shadow/Moon Gray, in an attempt to mix it up from my routine of all black leather shoes (in the casual sneaker style, typically).

The Vermont is a good looking shoe, I will give it that. But the construction isn't up to what I would expect from Ecco. It's China fabricated, and while I've got many Made In China products that are of nice quality and construction, this Ecco is not one of them. The upper leather seems stiff and boardy; the mid sole, too, feels boardy and cheap. Fit-wise the shoe is too wide in the instep (arch) area, and the toe box seemed two different shapes between left and right. The heel fit is not so great, either, and combined with the boardy feeling upper and midsole, allows heel slippage (never good). Of course, since one shoe seemed shaped ('lasted') slightly different than the other, one slipped more than the other.

Maybe if I weren't such a shoe fiend I could live with these, but because I am fussy about my footware (and these are not cheap shoes), I returned them. Too bad, because I *really* like the look.

Maybe they'll work for you, but don't hold out too much hope if you are a stickler for fit and construction.

ECCO's EU-US sizing conversion is off by about one full size, and their sizing chart disagrees with charts from other shoe companies. I am a size 7.5US, and ECCO recommended a 41EU. What I actually needed was a 40EU. I was able to return the shoe to an ECCO store at the mall, and I eventually tracked down the correct size.

Even in the correct size, the shoe still feels big at the toe. It's a shame they don't make another size smaller.

They're longer and narrower than I expecIed. I wear a 10.5 2E in most shoes. The width is adequate if the laces are loosened up and there is almost an inch of space in front of my toes. The insole is not very comfortable. The heel is very hard and needs more padding. I had the beginnings of a blister and some pain on my heel after wearing them out for the first time. Hopefully they will break in.

I can't believe I don't like these ECCO shoes, my favorite hiking shoe was an ECCO they discontinued a few years back. Unfortunately these have a forward angle on the back heal that rubbed me raw. They also have an edge on the side binding that rubbed me raw. That occurred on one trip through Ohare and Atlanta airports wearing Merino wool hiking socks! I am very disappointed since ECCO at one time produced a great shoe for trail hiking and around town that I loved. This shoe for me was a disaster.

I immediately noticed the shoe color does not match the advertisement photo. The photo looks like the shoe is a two tone leather, which has the toe portion being darker than the rest. However, this was not the case. The entire shoe is same color, which is a dark chocolate brown leather. Upon reading another review, I ordered a size smaller than what I needed and the shoe seems to fit fine (I usually wear a 10-10.5 but ordered a 9-9.5). This is the first day wearing them, they are a pretty stiff leather and will have to be broken in, but seem to be a quality made well-stitched shoe.

I really like this shoe, however understand some of the negative comments. It is not as 'cushy' as other Eccos I have worn, they took a little breaking in. I also had a small blister the first time out, but after that not a problem. I tend to like a shoe with a stiff foot bed; I don't like feeling like I have bedroom slippers on, so these feel good to me.

Overall ,the shoe quality is excellent and that's what you would expect from Ecco. On the other hand the comfort is OK I've had more comfortable shoes from Ecco, but it's still decent and especially for the price.

Fit like slippers. Soft and comfortable but solid. This is my third pair of Ecco shoes. Will keep buying. Now how to keep the Ecco ad from popping up in my facebook feed 3x/day....
