I have been a fan of Bill Frisell since I first heard him play on Fluid Russell by Eberhardt Weber in 1979. Alas, this record which was I believe his second solo for ECM is dominated by the brass/wind instruments. Frisell began his musical journey as a clarinet player in a marching band. Perhaps his relation to winds and brass has never left him. He has created music in many configurations and contexts. As a seeker of versatility, he is successful. I prefer the trio format he has used throughout his career. Some people will take their Frisell anyway they can,So this might be a welcome addition to a large Frisell collection. I think Fris is a team player, and he always lets his coplayers find room in his recordings to shine. Those fond of brass and Frisell will like this more than me.

It is important to recognize an artist; so it is for this work of Frisell. It is undoubtly one of his best works, not corrupted from routine, as sometimes is happening in the last years
